    Good to know. Thanks, Marcin.

What exactly does that mean? I do hope AdwCleaner will not turn into bloatware or change beyond recognition. This program is great as it is. Therefore I hope that these "resources" will not render this program unusable.

I think he means that more people will be working on it, which will lead to it having better detection rates.

I do hope you are right. Maybe Marcin can elaborate on his statement regarding the "resources" he intends to add to this program.

I'm sure Malwarebytes crew can and will make AdwCleaner into a better product, it does have its flaws such as false detections. As far as adding resources, Malwarebytes has 200 programmers, not sure what AdwCleanre has but I'm assuming less than 5, so in the end I'm sure a much better product will result from the acquisition.

Didn't you read what Marcin said? AdwCleaner isn't going anywhere. It'll remain free and actively maintained. How is that killing the tool?

You weren't looking for my response but there might be a few who see things in a similar way. Besides, obediently nodding in agreement to everything is boring and no fun. I don't care for Malwarebytes Corporation's array of products. This is cajoling AdwCl.'s cult following into believing what you say is true. It's profitable to get to that niche, it gives added cachet to the product line. Perhaps AdwCl.should indeed remain the same for the foreseeable future, these things must be done DEL-icately. (Wilders! Again no suitable emoji!). Little doubt the software will be incorporated into the anti-malware along with other stuff-- that's already been mentioned elsewhere, and the AdwCleaner we know will cease to exist.

Can't please everyone, there's at least one decent alternative so letting go of AdwCleaner is sad but easy.

Which one? There are similar apps, but I haven't found one which is strikingly similar to AdwCleaner.

Me neither. RogueKiller in conjunction with CCleaner, flush DNS and Windows socket via cmd, reinstall browser? I'll reinstall Windows if need be, it's no big deal anymore. I don't want it to come down to: well, I have no choice, AdwCleaner/Malwarebytes is the only game in town. So I'll focus on strict prevention, with browser extensions like uBlock Origin (you rock), and others.

Edit: If you have back-up software or a restore point, you could do that also, couldn't you?.

You're right. There are many options to choose from. However, AdwCleaner has always been my favorite second-opinion scanner. There have been quite a lot of good apps in recent software history which were swallowed by software giants - usually without a happy ending for the apps (BOClean etc.). I can therefore understand that some people are not too happy with what is going on with AdwCleaner. I'm still in two minds about this acquisition. I can only hope that AdwCleaner will not go the BOClean way.

I doubt that wlll happen anytime soon. Malwarebytes aquired Junkware Removal Tool 16 months ago, and it has not been discontinued. Not only that, but it's basically the exact same product it was originally. It still automatically deletes everything it finds without prompting.

Perhaps Marcin, can give some insight into long term plans for AdwCleaner. But, for now at least, there is nothing to worry about.

AdwCleaner has until now been produced by a few young people, essentially in their spare time. They would eventually move on to other things and the project would have died. But now malwarebytes has acquired it, it should live a bit longer. The AdwCleaner team also have jobs with malwarebytes so their talents will continue to be used.

I do not consider Malwarebytes as a trustworthy company, I avoid anything, that is being made or owned by them.

Personally I use UVK to auto-update ADWCleaner and launch a scan but it also comes with UltraAdwareKiller. You can get the standalone version here:

    http://www.carifred.com/ultra_adware_killer/

As this thread is for ADWCleaner it would probably be best to start a new thread if you have questions on UVK or UAK. Basics of UAK - run a scan and add items to whitelist or uncheck any items that should not be deleted. Whitelist via right click menu. Manage whitelist via "Menu" button.

Thanks for the link and screenshot. This does look like a good alternative to AdwCleaner. I will give it a try soon.

    Hi

I have Wise Registry Cleaner and after I excluded it totally in Malwarebytes AntiMalware it did not show up during complete scanning.

However, a registry key for Wise Registry Cleaner still shows up in AdwCleaner during scanning. So is there a way to exclude/ignore this registry key in AdwCleaner so that in future scanning it'll not show up?

    Thanks
