I've switched back to the beta of IObit Malware Fighter 4, as PC Manager had too many false positives for my liking.
I also found that to be an issue with PC Mgr. I've decided to stay with BD-AV (free) as it is extremely light, updates regularly and it's quite effective (with very few FPs), plus I haven't any near-term intention to use Win10.

I'm using PC Manager again as it currently one of the lightest antiviruses there is. I do not like that it automatically quarantines threats. As soon as something is quarantined, you are given the option to go to the quarantine and restore the file and add it to the ignore list, which really is not good enough for me, as I want to be able to choose what do with every single file detected, before any action is taken. However, I don't think there is really any alternative that will suit my requirements. I need an antivirus to be extremly light with an absolute minium system impact all of the time, no matter what I'm doing on my computer. The one exception to that is when a scan is running. Also, I need it to be able to prompt for what action to take before quantining threats, and I need it do that for every single threat found.
I'm currently using this as my antivirus. I like it so far. Hopefully there aren't too many false positives.
I ran into a false positive with PC manager. Nothing serious though, it flagged CCleaner's setup .exe as a Trojan. Also, I did a scan yesterday and it flagged a folder as something that was left behind from a virus or Trojan. I pretty sure that was also a false positive.
The self protection of Tencent PC Manager is worthless. During upgradation it automatically uninstalls the older version and installs the new one. My uninstall watcher software identified this and alerted me about leftovers after uninstallation. In fact the leftovers are just the newer version of the software. I intentionally let the software delete the "leftovers" and thought that Tencent PC Manager must block it owing to it's self-protection module. After the cleaup I could not launch the GUI from the tray icon. After a restart the software didn't open and I indeed found that the software had been deleted. PS: I was happy with the software until this happened.
Since i installed Tencent i get my ip changed now and then to - 114.114.114.114 - which is in China. There is no possibility in the Gui to stop that and nothing that says in the Gui it is going to do the changes. So i just wonder - whats up. Anyone else experiencing this?
The address you gave is the address of the Chinese DNS server 114DNS. Your IP address can't have changed to that, as it's an address for a DNS server. Both my primary and alternate DNS servers are still set to the ones from my ISP. What are you using to check your IP address?
This is what i see when i check it on the net - https://dig.whois.com.au/ip/114.114.114.114 I use DNS jumper from Sordum so i look in it to see. I uninstalled Tencent but it still changes to the above ip now and then. Hmm. Maybe Clover is the cause or something fishier.
Okay, so PC Manager is not causing it. I don't know why Clover would change it, but it is also from china. How are you checking the IP address? I downloaded DNS Jumper, but it does not show your current IP address settings.
Yeah, my bad! In the exitement i wrote wrongly i of course meant DNS. I checked with Windows and there it was a change from getting it automaticly to fixed. Changed back to automatic, changed DNS with Jumper and uninstalled Clover so now i have to wait and see. Something has changed it though and it was not me. Clover and Tencent gives info during installation in Chinese and what it says - who knows. There can be an explanation in there somewhere. Have you experienced something like it when you used Tencent?
I've never seen any Chinese text and I've installed in on many computers. If you have have a smart phone, you could use the Google Translate app to translate the text, as it can translate text in images - you just need to point the phones camera at your computer's screen.
No phone, Pc. As we talked about before i have downloaded the right version from the right place so it is/was the right and latest version. The former and last version comes from Tencents homesite with a mixed language installer with Chinese and English language. Try it and you will see. Anyway, no problem since the latest post.
You are using a different version to what I am then. I have never seen the option to install in Chinese when using the global version, or the option to install in English when using the Chinese version. I'm using version 11.6.26306.91 which is the most recent version which has just been released. I also just launched the installer for the latest TAV version - 11.6.26305.91, and there was also no option to select the language. I downloaded the installers from the global PC Manager website.
No, you don't even have the option of using it. PC Manager comes with no extra software or advertising or popups.
I reverted to another image without Tencent but with clover, which comes with Chinese language during install but whatever you choose afterwards. The problem still occured. Reverted even further without Clover, problem vanished. So Clover was the problem. Mystery solved. Tencent comes as multilingual, of course, but during install, a week ago, it was with some English Gui frames and some in Chinese. I took it from the site you, Roger, linked formerly, and the right version. That i know for shure. But, when i tried to install it now - it was all English. Hmm. Anyway - problem solved and over. Thanks for your time Roger!
Perhaps, Tencent very briefly published a different installer, as I've never seen the option to choose a lanugage when you install it. It's good that you were able to resolve the problem.
Is Tencent PC Mgr a 'set & forget' AV (such as Bitdefender Free) or does it require user-intervention?
Zemana and Tencent dont like each other so there is much action going on there. Exceptions had to be done. Pretty often i experienced that it quarantined downloads without telling even if it was set to do so. Otherwise, ok. The best thing with it for me was that it did not ad to the startup time more than 1sec. Incredible.
That's understandable, but I'd like to know if Tencent is relatively 'quiet' when running on its own (without other security software).
For me, yes. There was not anything to accept or decline during daily work regarding system processes etc. But there was the problem with downloads i mentioned.
