I suppose it has again been updated and the drag and drop files disappearing after any event has been fixed. Also a link to continue on to an unsafe webpage has been added.

    AV edition 1.0.3.7

EDIT: This info is for BitDefender Free 2016 Beta.

Strange when you take a look in configscreen with installed programs it says version 1.0.3.9
In the GUI -> tab Protection it say 1.0.3.7
Works fine & feels light , updates every hour.

Weirdly enough the av edition has only updated on 1 out of my 3 windows 10 computers.

Anyone here using the BD-Free 2016 Beta on Win 8.1? - if so, I'd really appreciate getting some feedback.

Although I'm using BD-Av Free 2014 on WinXP, my neighbor has been running the 2016 Beta on Win8.1 for the past couple of weeks. When I asked how he liked it he said 'so far, so good' and went on to say 'it ran light and quiet'.

I'm running BD-free-2016 on my notebook (see signature) and a not listed netbook.
Slim and quite, no issues, nothing to complain, ecxept Windows Action-Center showing a warning, during BD update.
It works well together with HMP.A, ZAM, KAR and unchecky.

No need to run them all at the same time, I only do this for testing purpose.

My suggestion is BD-free-2016, plus HMP.A (paid), plus unchecky, to cover nearly all risks.
To make this setup even more powerful, you may add ZAM (paid)

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I usually shy away from betas but I'm going to make an exception with this one!

Hiltihome, why Hitman Pro Alert? - doesn't BD-Free 2016 provide sufficient protection?

    @Scott W :
BD-free-2016 has a local database, a cloud component and a web-filter as well.
HMP.A is a signature less protection against exploits, ransomware and much more.

BD-free-2016 is good enough on it's own, but to have a layered security, I add HMP.A(paid)

I've seen commercial Endpoint protection from TrendMicro and Kaspersky fail on ransomware...
Although I do weekly and monthly backup, I'm paranoid on ransomware, that's why a layered security is a must for me.

Have a look at the HMP.A thread, likely Surfright has a Black Friday Sale, like in the years before. (buy one year, get two years)

On my installation it was the other way around...
If you like to have the current version displayed under installed programs, uninstall BD-free-2016 and reinstall, using the online-installer.
It will take a while, until current version is displayed under protection.
This is only an cosmetic issue, no need to be concerned.

I have send feedback to BD about this with screenshots, they will look in to this and will send me a mail when its fixed.

When it was installed it showed version 1.0.3.9 (under protection) but after 1 hour when it was updated for the first time it changed to 1.0.3.7

Maybe they pulled the update and reverted back to 1.0.3.7...,

    Same thing here.
    After fresh installation: 1.0.3.9
A hour later, or so: reverted to 1.0.3.7...

    Obviously, exists should read exits.

So, BETA for Windows 10 and "beta" for everything else. :D

Pity. The old BD Free tested.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix2AwlSBajU

When a commenter informed and linked the new version:
And yet the latest Qihoo and Avira could be done?

Granted, the new BD Free version is beta but given this test was done on Windows 7 IMHO that's irrelevant.

One can't say for certain if BD's improved cloud engine vsserv.exe (replacing the old gzserv.exe) would have resulted in a different outcome.

Ditto on whether the old version's Active Threat Control engine (avccore) and process injectors (avcuf) are up to snuff with the new.

And the Agent Service, the same version as in BD 2017.

So, a do-over for this test would be nice.

Haakon- I completed the first Qihoo video on October 11. Both the BD and Avira videos were done the following day (I didn't release them immediately). The rationale for doing the Avira and BD videos was just to compare the definition detection of these as that's all that Qihoo uses. But there have been a number of questions as to how BD 2017 would do in such a test, and I've actually completed a BD AV 2017 (paid). The point for this one is to see if the new and improved version will protect against the file against which BD free 2016 failed. As I have a video backlog, this one won't be online for 3-4 weeks.

Also, I will only use Win7 as that's still the number one installed version of Windows. Doing these tests across Win 7, 8, and 10 is just a burden I am unwilling and unable to take up. I hope you understand.

If we use BD free (beta 2016) do we need to install also BD AntiRansonware (tool) or is BD free version also protecting against ransom ? any idea's ?

Finally got around to running BDAV-Free again on my Windows 10 1151 box a week or two ago.

I updated to 1607 today without issue.

Thought I'd give Defender's Limited Periodic Scanning a shot. Turning it on in Settings starts the service and sets it automatic.

I found the Network Inspection Service could be started. I might change the Startup Type to Automatic sometime soon.

    Changelog?

I still encounter the Windows Security Center to give an alert, while Bitdefender is updating...
Most likely it's true, that protection is stopped while updating, but this is irritating, to average users.

The BD forum hasn't posted up a changelog since 1.0.2.2 in August.

    But today I logged:
    Security Service (vsserve.exe) 1.0.3.2 > 1.0.4.4
    Basic Protection (bdagent.exe) 1.0.3.6 > 1.0.4.22
    Update Downloader (downloader.exe) 3.0.3.917 3.0.3.926

And see boatloads of libraries 1.0.3 > 1.0.4 (antiphishing, behavorial, etc.)

No change to ATC Core or injectors but those are usually backgrounded with no reboot needed.

Nothing else obvious jumps out at me.

BitDefender Free 2016 Beta Auto Updated to version 1.0.4.25. Seems ok :thumb:

I got the 1.0.4.25 update, too.

The only change I could find is the ATC core got updated to 3.12.15976.6498 from 3.12.15080.6445. The injectors have been .6498 for a while. This brings Free's ATC engine up to BD 2017 parity.

It's unusual BD bumped the product version for that. Like, no reboot needed.

Maybe they're changing their strategy considering their previous free AV suffered unfounded, clueless criticism as "abandonware" because the product version remained the same for so long even though silent background updates were active.

Anyhow, it's great to see development continues in full swing.

I think it's getting to be about time BD rolled this AV out of beta...

How good a fit do you guys think this beta version would be for my (PC-novice) wife's W7 laptop?

BD Free and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free would be a superb combo (when using a browser supported by MBAE) in Windows 7 and 8.

EDIT: see post 3554, next page.

The primary reason the version remains beta is Windows 10. Microsoft won't certify anything that's beta.
