Trend Micro 10 FPs and F-Secure 31 FPs are also on top for FPs...

By the time anyone reads that in the report those issues had already been fixed. Most users would be none the wiser unless they happened to have that file which triggered the FP at the time it was problematic. To be honest, I've never even heard of most of the FP stuff they report on let alone have it on my system.

You overlooked Emsisoft, that has consistenly detected/blocked 100%. The "User Interventions" are not what they seem if you have not used the product. The recommended action in instances of "User Interventions" is clear.

EMIS may not be the best choice for the average home customer, but for anyone frequenting this Forum it's "top-shelf."

Good to see that that EMIS has gotten FPs down.

If it is so good, surely it should be able to deal automatically with the kinds of issues it shows the example user intervention for. If others can do it, why can't Emsisoft?

Because Emsisoft model of protection isnt made to be an artificial champion of AV- tests, but it is made to protect its users with high detection/privacy and low system performance and false positives.

Emsisoft could just change its behavior blocker to auto quarantine everything without user input (like some AV does), but would it be the best for its users?

In real usage scenario it is unlikely that the user would have to respond to this kind of question anyway, almost all decisions are already made with Cloud help.

Version 12 has some changes that will help to get better "grades" in those tests:

" Improved Anti-Malware Network file database lookups to verify scanner- and real-time protection alerts, and to avoid false positives."

And I have to disagree with Hawki, Emsisoft is perfect for the average home customer, the configuration and the alerts is so simple that anyone can master.

I used F-Secure for years and never saw a single false positive. Hell, I don't think I've seen more than a handful of false positives since I started using an Antivirus in the 90s.

Yes, I do think it would be best.

I've used and tested a WHOLE bunch of anti-virus software.
The best I've found is Kaspersky. That always shines.
Emsisoft promises a lot, but ain't all that.

I think that the angle Emsisoft is playing is that with auto quarantining then false positives will rise, which to me is something there are trying to avoid.
Emsisoft after version 8 seems to have some very critical and disturbing problems, and what makes matters worst is that when you have a customer that paid for a product that try to report a serious problem and you get people jumping the said topic saying all is fine here it sort of diminishes the seriousness of the persons
complaint, and don't think for 1 moment that I don't use this product I do but people need to know the facts.

If the change they behavior of their behavior blocker to block it will get hundreds of false positives in any test.

And yet others like Kaspersky and Bitdefender don't get hundreds of false positives...
I don't understand why people are defending Emsisoft with such passion when its a simple apples against apples comparison regarding auto quarantine/block/delete.
Its like people are making excuses for Emsisoft....

I've reported many issues, but not one has been fixed to date.
Its a wonder why anyone would pay for such a service.
I won't ever be paying them a cent any more.

I'm pretty sure that most of the time FPs are harmless and easy to rectify when it happens, however tests are the same for all players and there is no doubt that F-Secure, Trend Micro, and a few others have a tendency towards FPs detection on a monthly basis.

From the AV Comparatives site: "In order to better evaluate the quality of the file detection capabilities (distinguish good files from malicious files) of anti-virus products, we provide a false alarm test. False alarms can sometimes cause as much trouble as a real infection [my emphasis]. Please consider the false alarm rate when looking at the detection rates, as a product which is prone to false alarms achieves higher detection rates more easily." With this in mind Kaspersky and Bitdefender are truly excellent.

O.K. Let's narrow it down to Avira, Bitdefender and Kaspersky.
AV-Comparatives does Not see things the way you do. :isay:

EmsiSoft blocked 96.8%; the missing 3.2% is User Dependent which varies among Users!
Experienced users may block the Threat but the Inexperienced ones may Not! ;)

The Avira free and paid (with web protection) may have the same score in a signature based test, i.e.: File Detection Test

This is the Real World Protection Test, please read the PDF pages 3 & 7 :
and you will realize why the Avira free and paid will certainly not have the same scores......

What components does avira Pro have that would increase security compared to the free version?

Might depend if the alert has a recommended option.

The web protection module is available for free in chrome add-ons and firefox

And in their website for the free version they have the results of the avc real word test, so for them there is no difference
