Thank you, a very explicative article !!

"If you pick option 2, you get all security updates but may still run into issues with these patches. You do need to download and install those manually through Microsoft's Update Catalog though, as you can't use Windows Update for that anymore.": it seems the only one possible.

Hope that independent developers create some trick or work around or program to make it easier. :shifty:

Do you people in here at Wilders agree if I publish direct M$ download links for these ones? Is it useful for you people I do that?

I checked and double-checked the monthly rollups applicable to my systems, KB3185330 and KB3188740, and decided to install.
One system is installing those updates right now.
If some later month the rollups contain some element that I cannot agree with, I may need to switch to the security-only updates, but for now I install the monthly rollups.

I got 2 October Quality Rollups, security and .NET, and then 3 Office 2007 single updates and one silverlight update, and one something else. But all 7 installed without issues or problems. Rebooted and all is well.

    Neither.

MS have shown themselves to be untrustworthy with the GWX thing and telemetry updates, not to mention all the borking that's hit users machines with individual updates.
Who knows what is rolled up in these updates.
I have hidden all October updates except the .NET update which as usual I will wait a couple of weeks before installing.

As I mentioned, I installed the monthly rollups.
The monthly rollups, that are the ones offered through Windows Update, and that is what I used.
For my Windows 7 systems, that was the security monthly quality rollup, plus the .NET Framework monthly rollup.

Perhaps no .NET Framework monthly rollup was applicable to your system?

in short Security Only Quality Update are avaible only to download via microsoft servers, aren't they?
really incredible , just think about many offices , or users that haven't the fortune to visit this forum

they have insalled every cr... microsoft released include the new updates , that need time to be sure they don't cause issues

Microsoft has created some confusion over how to access the security-only rollup. They originally announced that it would only be available from the MS Update Catalog site, and not delivered via Windows Update. It is still true that it is not delivered via Windows Update, but if you use Mister X links or Google the KB number (e.g KB3192391) you will see there are 2 methods offered...

Method 1 (the catalog) and under Method 2 (the download site).

Method 2 is better: you can avoid IE and the website's Active-X nonsense

    or
Tnx to Mister X, just use his links (fast and accurate). This is what I used.

    Mister X,

About the links you gave in reply # 81 and 82
To avoid possible confusion: Are they language independent or only for the English version of Windows?

Thanks for the the individual msu files.
I get an error when I attempt to open:

    0x80070005
    Installer encountered an error :
    access is denied

Anyone knows a solution to this? I'm running the file as admin.

Regarding Telemetry and other unwanted updates, note that MS will later also start to include older updates in Monthly Rollup's, until all users have all updates. That means that if you install and continue to install the Monthly Rollup's, you may not only get new telemetry stuff but you will also get the old stuff as they plan to gradually include all updates released since Win7 SP1.

    @Mister X
Thanks for the links. Could you please change them to https, instead of plain http?

Can't recall for XP but since Windows Vista onwards updates are language independent.

You will have to stop Windows Update from running and then run the Windows Standalone Installer.
