Hi Dan, I'm one of the unlucky ones with freeze issues and I use Google Chrome as browser. I hope that you can find the cause. So far I only had 1 freeze with version 3.38.
Never use sleep mode, my laptop is on or off...

I do recall a correlation between waking from sleep mode and VS freeze. Use Firefox exclusively and was during the time VS was in use. No Chrome.

Edit to add: Coming out of sleep can take a number of seconds-- for many it's pretty instantly, isn't it? Maybe that's a good start to troubleshoot vis-a-vis this specific computer and VS, figuring out why it's taking too long to emerge from sleep.

I use sleep mode a lot and a Chrome Fork browser - Slimjet - I have never had any freezes at all.

I think this is absolutely the case. The Freeze issue is Most definitely System/Machine oriented! The code is good.....
I personally have had no freeze issue on any of my Win 10 64Bit Machines, all with layered Security Profiles.
All of the machines experiencing constant freezing issues throughout the versions of VS, I would wager have a common denominator/s that is causing issues.
One would have to agree, if it was in the VS code the Freeze would be far more general across many more machines.
    Just my opinion.

My command-line is nearly 3400 characters long but i never had a freeze.
The last time i used VS was a while ago, but i think it's time for me to test VS again with one of these new beta-versions. :)

I use either IE or Edge. I double checked my setting and hibernate mode was disabled but sleep mode was enabled. it was set to go night night after 45 min. it always happened after coming out of sleep mode but so far I have not seen the issue with 3.38 beta. also I see malwarbytes Antiexploit driver has been fixed as to not interfere with a couple other programs I have.

    Agree with you 100%.

    @VoodooShield

Dan, isn't it now time to ask everyone who is experiencing the freeze issue to provide you with details of the hardware and software they are using? I'm convinced we all share a common component, because it's not happening to everyone.

There seem to be a number of laptop users here with the problem, me being one of them, but my Win 10 desktop has never had the problem once. Is it mainly laptop users that are affected?

    Just my 2 cents.

Have been regularly experiencing the freezes on my Win10 AU x64 dual-monitor desktop here, mostly running just Chrome and Skype with VS on autopilot mode. Issue almost always happens after resuming from sleep, although I haven't seen the issue with 3.38 yet (did with 3.37 and all previous versions).

    Hi Dan,
Happy to report that I still have not encountered any freezes...and I have run most of the 3 Betas..
But (for the first time ever with a 3 Beta) I was unable to install 3.38.
With every other VS Beta Avast allowed me to create an immediate exclusion, but with 3.38 it would not.
I excluded 3.38 from Avast scanning, and tried 3 times to download and run it,but it just would not work.
I do have maximum settings in Avast, but this is the first problem that I have ever encountered with a VS Install.
I am currently running 3.37,and will wait until the next release to see if Avast lets it through.

I think its Avast & not VS prob i.e seems Avast Max settings or Hardened mode is silently blocking VS install.

@VoodooShield can you check to make sure the USB shield hasn't been broken? In smart mode with email client and browser open nothing showed on the VS shield that I installed a USB Drive.

I set mine to smart mode and insert usb and don't see a change on the shield either. I think it did the first time but then not again after that.

edit: once I laft clicked on the desktop icon it turned red with usb like it should , then clicked to turn back blue and usb warning was still there.

ok on my machine now in smart mode if I close the browser icon remains blue and doesn't go back to red.

I can confirm the same issues with no browser or email client open.

Dan IMHO it's time to take your time with VS and do rush updates.

Here I don't use Chrome but manly Edge and IE. So, I am afraid the freeze may be not only related to Chrome.

    Nice idea.
If the user switches to Install Mode, VS is switching back after a specific interval.
like: "Suspension Timeout value: x minutes"

AppGuard similarly has a 20 minute timeout for 'Allow Installs', which can be overridden, or changed in advanced settings.

I just got the flashing VS icon in AutoPilot mode...Anyway, I captured the action...Not sure why VS blocked what looks like something innocuous.

No problems so far using 338 on Win 7 except that the icon remains red all the time in smart mode, it used to be blue?

Weird, mine is blue in smart mode on Win 8.1 and Win 10.

Hey everyone... I will catch up on the posts asap, but I wanted to give you a quick update.

Vlad and I are both working on the freeze issue, and I also spoke with https://nerdery.com/ yesterday, and I think they are going to start helping to isolated the issue soon as well.

The thing is... we have already ruled out tons of possible causes, so the issue is narrowed down big time.

Just for the heck of it, if anyone who experiences the freeze issue consistently, can you please disable VoodooAi temporarily to make sure this is not the cause, and please let me know! The VoodooAi option is in Settings / Advanced... "Automatically scan blocked files with VoodooAi."

    Thank you!

how does parent/child work with VS?
If I allow a process to run, do the child processes inherit that permission?
