It should do. I can install updates again, after not being able to do so for some months.

You can download the Media Creation Tool to install the update from Microsoft.

On some of my computers the upgrade to Anniversary Update failed to conplete installing. However when the install failed my computers were automatically rolled back to the previous build again.

 

Thanks for posting this. I did a clean install of 7 yesterday and it worked like a charm.

 

Install cumulative update on a new computer.

Subsequent updates will take minutes - not hours - to find.

From the link in the above,Post # 402. How do you know? if,this is the Windows Anniversary Update and/or the latest version of Windows 10.
Is there a way to check? Or see that this truly Windows Anniversary Update?

It is the Anniversay Update/latest build as Microsoft update the Media Creation Tool to download Anniversay Update when they released it.

 

I experienced similar when I had to reinstall Win 7 in one laptop recently. I found out that this happened only when I used an install disk that included SP1.

Windows 10 with its rolling release is broken.

I would rather prefer Microsoft to focus on bug and security fixes over new enhancements.

But it won't even offer consumers the choice on Windows 10.

 

As someone who has been using Windows 10 since it was first released. In my experience with using Anniversary Update on several computers, is that it is a big improvement over previous builds. Not only is it running faster, but also if fixes ongoing issues I was having with the Start Menu quite often on the main laptop I use.

It's clear to me that Microsoft are serious about fixing bugs.

 

They wouldn't have to fix bugs if it was a RTM. At least in earlier versions of Windows, you knew what you were getting in the final version.

With Windows 10, you have to find out if Microsoft fixes anything amiss when they roll out a new update.

 

I installed 10 in July last year when it came out, and even one whole year later, after all kinds of updates, many ridiculous bugs were still unfixed and present.. It's clear to me that MS is putting out pure trash now. Back in the Win 7 days, and earlier (excluding Vista), their product was much cleaner and the updates were much better. Now.... pure junk. It's amazing... And since they still have a virtual monopoly on the computer OS market, they expect that we will just accept this trash as if it's "ok". Unbelievable arrogance....

 

I think that the new MS plan for Win 7 & 8 updates, starting in October, to begin the issue of monthly cumulative roll-up only type patches like Win 10, will really bite them if they do not significantly improve testing and QA before release.

I have found a better or faster solution on fixing Windows 7 x64 stuck at checking for updates issue.

1. Download and install KB3020369 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46817
2. Download and install KB3172605 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53332
(Or the other way around.)
And you are done.

The previously mentioned KB3161608 (containing the KB3161647 component "An optimization that addresses long scan time for updates that's reported on some computers") is superseded by KB3172605, that contains the previous KB3161608 plus a couple of new improvements and fixes.

 

I wondered that it seems that there are still issues, also after the release of KB3161608.

Do you mean other issues than the Intel Bluetooth issue mentioned in the KB3172605 article?
If so, could you be more specific? Which issues, exactly?

I'm sorry . I was not clear in my question. I have not problem with WU since last July, when I installed KB3161608. I was only surprised that the thread go on, and my real question was: " Why someone has still problem with WU ? " Sorry, when I wrote the question may be I was thinking in my native language, that is not English.

And don't worry about the misunderstanding. There will always be misunderstandings, even if people speak the same language, as we can also see on Wilders.

Why are there still people having problems with Windows Update, you ask.
I think that's because of several reasons.
Firstly, KB3172605 and the previous KB3161608 are optional updates, not everyone will have those updates installed.
Secondly, not everyone reads this complete thread or similar threads, so people will have missed the suggestion to install KB3172605, or previously KB3161608.
Thirdly, KB3172605 and the previous KB3161608 have an issue with Intel Bluetooth, so those updates won't suit everyone.
And in the fourth place, for reasons unclear to me, some people 'distrust' KB3172605 and the previous KB3161608 and therefore won't install it and need to look for other ways to fix the long scan time Windows Update issue.
