Rollback RX v10.x (Home & Professional)

Hi, when you go back to previous snapshot, it is almost "instantaneous" ! when you select "rollback" on a snapshot, Rx reboot the OS then load the selected snapshot (which may take less than 10seconds). Basically you don't have a "undo" time because RX doesn't "undo" it just reload a previous snapshot.
I did it with Photoshop CS5 which is 5gb+ so many times.

it is what i said earlier, if you have a power cut during a restore there is a good chances that your system may be smashed. I asked a member here in the RX thread to do a serie of hard reset/shutdown tests, he had to do it several times consecutively to get his system unbootable.

 

i will add that whatever file/program you add during a session , those files/programs are kept until you decide to rollback , unlike SD , rebooting doesn't discard your changes.

 

I too would like to confirm -

However big size program or whatever number of programs you installed...reverting back to snapshot with Rollback Rx is fast i.e mostly under a min.

I dont know how Rollback Rx will behave on sudden power cut or shutdown during restore operation.

On 2 occasion I have done hard system shutdown...1 time system restart was normal & 2nd occasion Rollback Rx console mentioned repairing snapshot or something like this And then system restart was normal & all snapshots were intact. To check snapshots I performed 2 restore operations & went fine & things were fine.

 

in fact , RX is way more stable since they introduce the option to flush the system cache; snapshots are more stable. to wreck your system you have to do several hard shutdown consecutively; which in real life scenarii is almost never happening. However messing with the MBR is 100% sure to crash the system.

 

It's fast because it only updates/rolls back it's tracking file to make the file(s) 'invisible' but they are still on your disk.
@ RBF - does RX ever clean those files or does the disk eventually fill up requiring extra work to free up the space?
Macrium actually deletes the files and in a Windows environment, the file space is flagged as free and can be written over easily so disk space stays minimal.

 

A single hard shutdown can potentially cause file system corruption. The corruption might or might not be fixable using sfc /scannow or dism.

A hard shutdown should be the last resort - after you've tried everything else and they have failed.

 

@TheRollbackFrog did an investigation of this on an SSD. He is the best source of technical infos.

 

I had to reinstall Win 10. The bios is in UEFI mode. Secure boot is enabled and I cannot disable it. Windows said it did not allow the rollback rx driver to install because it was not digitally signed. Is there a work around for this?

 

1. Disable SecureBoot
2. Install Rollback RX
3. Re-Enable SecureBoot

 

Secure boot is greyed out. Is there a way I can "grey it in"? thanks.

Anyone knows how to download RBRX Pro version 10.5 released 15 august. I have been trying but get the run around on their site to a trial version of 10.5 released 18 october that has to be signed up for.

 

Just download the TRIAL... it's the same as before just that they want some control and contact info on the TRIAL users. You'll be able to register it, if even needed, with your REG info just like before.

The problem is that i can not download the trial - i get directed to their site for buying it. So it is a dead end. If you get luckier trying, please tell me how you did.

Is there no difference in the 2 versions of 15 aug. and 18 oct?

 

Now all of a sudden, after an evening of trying, a site where i could input info that made it possible to download the 10.5 version appeared. That info site were blank for me before.

I'm sure there are differences but I can't see the August RELEASE NOTES any longer. It sounds like August was a v10.4 release.

I submitted a report regarding bcdedit; malware that tampers with it can corrupt the Windows boot loader - and Windows will not load normally or into Safe Mode - and therefore Rollback RX can not load even using the Rollback Subsystem Console

If it happens to you...

Boot Windows from the Windows installation media > Select Repair your computer option > Select correct version of Windows > Recovery options > Startup Repairs (if that fails) > Command prompt > bootrec /fixbmbr (if that fails then bootrec /fixboot)

If that don't work, well then guess your gonna get a clean install...

ok, my browser had a glitch, it didn't show the form.

I downloaded the latest version, did a clean install, no issues so far ; the bootscreen and logo are far better
