@ JohnnyStecchino, Configuration = PC Protection > System Scanner > Scan = Additional Settings : Uncheck the "Follow Symbolic links", "Optimized Scan" & "Integrity checking of system files"options. fyi: https://malwaretips.com/threads/recommended-settings-avira-pro.59413/#post-506360
Thank you so much anon. "Optimized Scan" & "Integrity checking of system files" are already unchecked. In PC Protection > Real-Time Protection > Scan = Drives : I have to check or uncheck "Monitor network drives" and "Enable caching"? In PC Protection > Real-Time Protection > Scan = Archives : I have to check or not "Scan archives"? In General > Security : Do I leave everything selected?
Depends. Personally I have both unchecked. ----------------------------------- Depends also: If you are looking for additional security: Yes. If you are looking for performance: No. You may have a look also here= https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/new-atmso-test.385870/ ---------------------------------- Yes.
Thank you for detailed explanation. One last thing: I having a third-party firewall, many of Avira processes ask to go out on the internet. Which of them should go out and which are not? - Control Center (avcenter.exe) - Product updater (update.exe) - Avira (avira.systray.exe) - Avira Service Host (avira.servicehost.exe) - Configuration Panel (avconfig.exe) - Antivirus Host Framework Service (sched.exe) - Antivirus Host Framework Service (avguard.exe) - Product activation tool (fact.exe)

It scans downloads, even if real-time is disabled. It does decisions on it's own, without asking and control. I decided to finally quit, although my licence is still valid.
All of them. fyi: Avira.Systray.exe & Avira.ServiceHost.exe belongs to Avira Launcher. ----------------- As Avira Free has no web protection, you may use the ABS instead. http://www.avira.com/en/avira-browser-safety
I allow all except for %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Avira\Launcher\Avira.ServiceHost.exe ... I block this process outbound in my firewall. Nothing that I have observed breaks when I do this. I think the other processes need net access for the full functioning of Avira updates, protection cloud, etc. The reason I blocked that one is because it connected to a web server after every startup, and stayed connected always. I monitored it with TCPView, Wireshark, and Fiddler. All it seemed to do was send packets back and forth in a keep alive fashion. Probably harmless, yet annoying. Since it used an unsecured port 80, I blocked it.
Avira Launcher version 1.2.71.21096 released yesterday. http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-antivirus-pro Installer: 4.24MB 4.23MB Changelog: nothing, nada, not exist....
Product version 15.0.22.54 (Update 22) released today. Installer 209 MB -> 220 MB http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-antivirus-pro No changelog yet, as always. http://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1699 --------------- fyi: 1. Product version 15.0.21.xx (Update 21) omitted (?) * 2. Device protection is a new feature aimed to protect you from external devices plugged into your PC. Avira Antivirus will prompt an alert and ask you if you want to allow or deny the new device. Right now device protection detects storage devices such as hard drives or usb sticks. Device Protection needs to be enabled via a "change installation" first before it can be tested. In order to do that, please follow the steps below: Press Windows (Windows Logo) + R on your keyboard Type appwiz.cpl and hit Enter Search for Avira Antivirus and right click on it to choose modify Click your way through the wizard and when it comes to choosing the components make sure USB Filter is checked. Finish the wizard. Device Protection is now installed. Edit: 1. * Update 21 will be only available for AV14 and only in English and German. 2. U22: New, faster, on-demand scanner scan by using the shell-extension scan button. (Right click a file in the explorer and select "Scan selected file with Avira)
