Swiss Privacy Foundation is closing down their dns servers

Just got hit with this message...

New ip addresses for dns servers
End of June 2015 the Swiss Privacy Foundation is closing down their dns servers (77.109.138.45 und 77.109.139.29).

You see this page because your System or your Network uses these DNS servers. You need to change this setting or ask your network administrator.

Our friends at xiala.net provide alternative servers.

Their dns resolvers check DNSSEC signatures. No logs are being kept as well as no block lists are in place. The servers could be reached via IPv6, too.

I was wondering why there was no internet yesterday

 

I have never used a third-party DNS server..I just go with my ISP...Am I missing something?

 

Not really but it can sometimes boost your internet speed or add protection:

Currently using Norton ConnectSafe: https://connectsafe.norton.com/ on my router as another layer in my protection setup.

 

If you're using VPN services, using third-party DNS servers for your direct uplink is prudent, just in case there's a DNS leak.

My browser doesn't allow me to enter xiala.net website, connection is insecure. Any info about this? Also, is there any good alternative?!

 

It looks like their certificate has expired. It's strange that they didn't take care of it...
