I use outlook 2016. I use my Hotmail account so if my computer oes done and I can restore a Marcum image I can at least get all my e-mail by going to my Hotmail account online.

I sometimes use both Hotmail and NetZero mail. The netzero mail is what I use if I suspect that my email addy will be stolen or shared. It's more or less a junk email box for me.

I always backup my pst files for Outlook 2007.

I still don't see why you people need to backup their pst files in Outlook.

Becuase unless they're using an Exchange server for their email, all their emails and contacts are stored locally on thier hard drive.

Not really. As long as you use IMAP to download your emails, there is always a copy of your emails kept on the email server. Still no need to back up pst files.

That's true. I've spent too many years using POP mail servers.

    i think
a recovery would help but it is possible to revive your windows again - i think there is something wrong with your driver base in windows 7 or something messed up the uefi boot.

with the win7 boot dvd it is possible to rebuild the bcd with bcdedit in command promt.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/rebuild-bcd-store-windows.htm

for recovery i use now for a long period mentioned runtime get data back and i own the Runtime Live-CD recovery (zero usage till now). ontrack ofc also but only few usage. runtime gdb is reliable and fast, but not for free. (look for discount)

any imaging software (acronis, macrium, paragon) is highly recommended, in special before such actions like upgrades or bigger changes.

You should be able to mount the image as a VHD and extract the .PST.

We use POP with Outlook but I gather our ISP will soon be changing to IMAP. However, the .PST also contains Calendar, Contacts and Tasks information so I'll still need a backup.

    Brummelchen,

Thank for the info, I have not had a chance to work on trying to reover things yet, but I really am anxious to get working on it.

There are several files I want to save and most importantly, I want my emails and addresses back.

    Regards.

I have decided before I go into trying to recover individual files, I will try to revive my HDD.

I believe that the problem lies n the registry file or BCD, Boot sector.

The errors I get were \BOOT\BCD 0xc0000225, an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

File \Windows\system32\config\system, Status 0xc0000225, Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt.

I have made several attempts to re-build the BCD using Bootrec, /fixboot, /fixMBR, /rebuildBCD, but so far no luck.

I have tried "Start-up Repair" several times and am now letting it attempt repairs to the disk. It seems to be scanning the disk an my HDD activity light is blinking, but this is the second attempt and the first time went on for 3 hours and I stopped it, and am trying it again.

At first, startup repair could not find an OS installed, but then found Win 7 Ultimate on the drive.

When I used DiskPart to look at the partitions, I found a drive "D" that I believe is my OS partition and I made sure that it was the "Active" partition.

Are there any good, automated, system recovery packages out there?

I feel I've made some progress in getting my system to boot, but it's slow going and I have made very little progress so far.

    Thanks !

Hi All. I allowed start-up repair to run to it's completion and re-started. The computer still won't boot, I get an error now that says "required device is inaccessible" "Registry is corrupt", Status 0xc0000000f.

BUT.... I now see and have several "Restore Points" that show up. Do you think I should try doing a restore from the latest restore point (March 2016) ?

Or, should I keep trying other things?

I want to be sure to NOT mess the system up any more than it is already.

I may try my luck using Paragon Rescue Kit to fix the MBR. Good idea, or not ?

    Thanks for any guidance.

In my experience wiping - overriding - files or folders, common recovery softwares doesn't work.

Curiously, I did the job on Saturday evening after countless hours of trailing software and turns out R-Studio performed really really good. And by really good I mean to say 3 hours scanning time and not 10 or 18 others claimed. Also I was able to see a recovery tree maintaining folder structure so I was able to pick the one I liked. Cool enough for me! I recommend it a lot.

Btw, I was able to recover around 259 GB of data. Easily and investing 5 hours of work only.
