Hi roger, what were your thoughts on the korean av nprotect ?

I take it that it didn`t last too long on your system ?

Personally I would go with Voodooshield as is actively being developed and supported. It is also fully compatible with Windows 10 AU and it's requirement for Kernel drivers to be signed by Microsoft if Secure Boot is enabled.

On the positive side, it's extremely light, and can be configured not to automatically quarantine threats. However it's still in beta and is too unstable for my liking at this stage. For example, at one point it shut down for no reason, and with no notification. I looked at the icons in the system tray at some point and noticed the nProtect icon was gone, and I had to relaunch it. Once the bugs are fixed, it should be be a good free antivirus considering it uses Bitdefender's signatures. My only reservation with it, is that I don't know how it handles product updates, e.g. if it can automatically download new versions when they are released, or if you would need to manually download and install the latest version from the nProtect website. I don't like it when you have to manually check for new versions and then download and install them yourself.

Not enough positives then to make it a resident but it will be interesting, as you mention, to see if the bugs are fixed when out of beta,if ever ?

    Thanks for the comprehensive response.

    Regards Eck:)

You're welcome. I presume the stable version should be released soon, as the beta version was released two months ago.

I can see why. I like Comodo FW a lot. But I'm not sure if I feel comfortable putting all me security eggs in one basket. Thoughts on this? Am I paranoid?

When VS 3.x came out I switched from VS to NVT ERP because it is very stable & VS was causing too many problems. I'm not sure where it's at now, but I'd suggest having a look through the VS thread. You'll be well protected with either of these.

My current config is similar - NVT ERP, Sbie, WFC (Binisoft), EMET, ZAL/ZAM, Secunia PSI, SyncBackFree

For me it's ok. I haven't had any problems with malware in about 7 years or so.

Yeah, I can see why. Have you thought of using the free CIS version? I think I might.

Are you using default settings or custom/proactive setup for KIS?

I have always used the highest settings for my KIS configuration, which has always worked fine for me.
