I read some similar thread here, but I want a specific advice. I would want a storage service - only as backup of my nature and geographic pictures collection - that: - is safe: I want be sure that nobody can upload his files, may be illegal, using my storage as his own. - is not invasive and communicative, as google drive seems to be. - allows to me to upload my files simply with copy and paste without install some program to do it. Thank you: I'm sure that it's safer and faster ask here rather looking and reading on the Web.
I could use one of them: just I want to be sure that them or another services are really sure and reliable.
Here's a couple sites that I recently reviewed when I was looking for some additional online storage: http://cloudnewsdaily.com/cloud-storage/ http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/internet/14-best-cloud-storage-services-2016-uk-copy-3614269/ http://www.pcmag.com/roundup/306323/the-best-cloud-storage-providers-and-file-syncing-services For me, one of the major considerations was the largest file size that I could upload.
I read that one, and I quote: SafeCopy: """...you can backup multiple folders (unlike Dropbox, for example...)""" It would be helpful if someone could explain that. If I understand that - which I don't - it might mean, for example, that incremental backup to the cloud would not work in Dropbox, that you would have to load each 'folder?' Surely not..... I don't know how this stuff works, I haven't used one and I'm looking. Thanks.
I actually faced this issue recently with OneDrive. I wanted to back up all my work files to OneDrive. I have probably 20-30 separate folders. In OneDrive, you can choose to backup files or folders. If you pick folders, you can only upload/backup one folder at a time. There is no ability to choose multiple folders. It was a pain! I had to go in throughout the day and pick one folder to backup at a time. Then, you have to wait for that folder to finish uploading before you can go back in and choose a new folder to backup. The ability to choose multiple folders to backup/upload would be a very nice feature!
Huh... It seems odd that a product which is among the top in the category should have such a shortcoming. Do we know if Mozy does folders/tree?
All these services are automated to the 10th power...... can't you just pick and choose which files to back up, and when?
I cannot make any recommendation but another factor to consider is the sustainability of the company providing the service if you would require a storage provider to stay around for the long-term.
I'm confused. In your original post, you state: And, now you ask about services being automatic?! Do you want something that is copy/paste without having to install a program, OR do you want something that is automatic? In order to get something automatic, you are going to need to install a program. If that's the case, then you could use Dropbox, Mozy, Google Drive, OneDrive, or any number of other type programs.
The answer to that would have to be "what are the options?" Today, I need to upload a few folders. My wife would like to do an incremental backup to cloud at the end of the day. That might be an option for me as well, depending on my work in the near future. Making a Macrium Reflect image (I don't own Macrium yet) and uploading it might be another option. My current need however, is #1 above: cherry picking.
Thanks for the cloudnewsdaily link. It lead me (eventually) to pcloud, which seems to be exactly what I want. You can create a folder and just put a picture of your dog there, or back up the universe all day and night. The pcloud site is OK, but the youtube videos give a very good perspective. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdiQK9arQfrgtxAclns9p2g
I hope I haven't hijacked this thread... but I have a question regarding some services being able to upload files, but not folders. (1) How does that make sense if the service is trying to back up your entire drive, or much of it? (2) So, if I have 500 files in a folder, I can't just upload the folder? That seems incredible.
Thank you, but the page is blocked: whatever browser I use, it says: Your browser seems a bit outdated and doesn't work.
