It seems that one is logged in when using Edge, with your Windows account. Is there a way to disassociate your Windows login from Edge. I don't like the idea of MS following the sites I go to while surfing, and connecting them with my account. I noticed that you used to be able to log out of Edge manually, but that option seems to have been removed now. Right-clicking just brings up your account settings. I use Chrome chiefly, but I find some sites don't like it, and Edge always seems to work.
If you are using Win 10, you can just assume that they're watching and logging not only everywhere you go in ANY browser, but everything else you type and do, plus dozens of other privacy invading things. It's a given with 10. Besides, your ISP and everyone else knows where you go on the web anyhow.
Do you mean your Microsoft Account? I read that if you login to Windows 10 using your Microsoft Account then Edge will recognize that you are logged into that and the Microsoft Account related features will be active. I'm not sure how it behaves if you logged into Windows 10 using a local account. Does Edge provide its own Microsoft Account login/logout interface in that scenario? I think there are some privacy related settings you'd want to look at, but there is also the more general issue of logging into a Microsoft Account via your OS/device. There are various potential consequences of that. Some which are documented, but others which are unlikely to be documented sufficiently and would be very difficult to understand without detailed analysis. Which I don't think anyone is doing. If you value privacy then the safest bet would be to never login to a Microsoft Account via your device (not even one time). If you've already done that then the next best option would be to mop up what you can and refrain from doing it again in the future. I'm not sure there is a way to reliably mop up from such a spill. Removing that Windows 10 user account might be beneficial. Closing the Microsoft Account too. Those steps might not be as thorough as you'd want though, since some associations may have already been made. Note that Windows 10 has phone home features that don't require a Microsoft Account. At least some of which phone home separate unique identifiers. You'd have to try to identify those too and decide what you want to do about them. I'm inclined to think an alternate browser could reduce your exposures, but that would depend on how exposed it is to cloud AV and other data collection features.
unlock (log out) your windows account from microsoft account - it is possible. or create another user account without ms account.
I think Edge has you logged-in when you're logged into Windows, as it links in with 'features', Cortana etc and what not. The thing is I don't want to faff around with accounts and disabling 'features' just to use a browser. I never want to log to a browser. Takes away any remaining privacy that's left. I'm aware of potential issues with Chrome, but until FF becomes more stable on my system, I'm stuck with it. Edge it seems will only be a last backup for sites that don't like Chrome, and not a mainstay.
