Win10 here , for me Win8 can't even come closer in term of usability. About updates issues , i never had one even with Win8 > Win8.1 > Win10 > Win10 AU. Clean install is the golden rule. Most critics are about updates, design and privacy (which is highly subjective and varies from people to people taste and experiences) but when you look at the core of the OS it is far better than any previous OSes.
I like some things about W10, I like some things about W8.1. I hate some things about both. Both 10 and 8.1 are OK - just a pain sometimes.
I hate both of them for different reasons. IF I had to choose between the two though I'd go with 10 rather than 8.
Both are good, but Windows 10 wins by a mile for me. The look, feel and usability are better overall.
Win10 by a mile, a small learning curve required ( as was 7 to 8 ) but a much better system in every aspect.
I don't even want to know what 10 has in the way of anything because 8.1 for me is perfection at it's very best! Who needs freaking updates when you know your own internal components and third party security. It's enough to know my system sings and dances too
Yes, nothing wrong about the past especially when it's safe (mostly, spy-free). Keep accepting lowest common denominators, good luck.
I'm on linux here, no issues, no problems. The one great thing about the past is, it'll never be here again.
I do not see there's any significant difference. No matter, essential, it is that running. (It does not matter, what color the cat is, essential is to catch mice).
Yes but, "History cannot give us a program for the future, but it can give us a fuller understanding of ourselves, and of our common humanity, so that we can better face the future." ~ Robert Penn Warren
linux, sounds great I would use it, only that games would be an issue. Don't want to play on TV, need it in my face! Could be my eyesight
I do use pretty much everything as I have images of all Win versions and many linux distros, but nowadays I stick mostly with linux since it serves my needs (which are few really) and it runs lighter and cleaner by far than Windows. Mostly I stick with Debian, Ubuntu & Mint, they're all reliable and easy to install and maintain. I don't do any gaming, so that isn't a problem for me.
I agree. On my newest (originally Win 8.1 Pro) laptop, I am alternating between two Win 10 images, 1511 and AU (1607), both of which have issues. The former freezes unless Windows Search service is disabled and more, the latter won't restart or shutdown, and troubleshooting has been very time-consuming and frustrating. I persist in the hope that I can get 10 AU to work, and because I like to keep up to date. But with each new Cumulative Update, new issues can arise. Oddly, three older Win 7 laptops are OK, and even seem snappier with Win 10. However, there is no new functionality in Win 10 that I need or use. And even with AU, the UI still seems unfinished, a perpetual beta. If I had known the hassles before I 'upgraded', I wouldn't have. I still have an image of 8.1 with Classic Shell, which was working perfectly, so I may still go back but now Micro$oft is bringing Cumulative Updates there too. I would consider myself an advanced, though not expert user ... I have no idea how 'Moms and Pops' cope with borked upgrades. Nor small businesses, actually. The changes in Win 10 are being driven by accountants and marketing people. I worked for many years for a large US IT corporation (remember HAL?) and have experience of this
I like both, but prefer Win10 now v. 1607 due to its clean efficiency, some telemetry to help clear up little messes, and then there's the safety issue. I'd never go back.
