Ermm ... good point, search engines are a necessity rather than a pleasure, Start Page irritates me the least ... so I must enjoy it the most I guess. lol
I was wondering how can I make google and duckduckgo to act like Yahoo search page, that when I click the link it opens a new tab and will retain the search page result. Google and duckduckgo search page result... when the link is click would not open a new tab page and instead will open on its own page.... and that could be a bit annoying that I could forgot to return and see what the search page results then.
Startpage has recently improved its image search capabilities. For text searches, I find that Disconnect gives results that are more comparable to regular Google.
I find Google to be the most useful and effective. I've tried all the search engines listed on the poll and a few more but nothing suits me better than Google.
Hey... I'm not ashamed to admit it... I like Bing. I actually prefer the results, and I like the daily images they show when you go to their homepage. Personally, I never noticed that much difference between the actual top hits between Google & Bing regardless of topic. Yeah, the layout is a little different and sometimes one has an entry a little higher in the list than the other, but nothing earth-shattering. Oh, and for those people that say... "But Google came back with 85 million hits versus Bing's 20 million"... I say... "Really? That's what you are going by?". Because, honestly, who has EVER gone past about page 15 in the search results. I would hazard to guess that most people probably stay with the first 5 pages of results 99% of the time. So, NO, I don't care what's on page 1,532,467 of the results for each search provider. Some might say, well, sure... but that metric just shows that Google is more thorough. But, no, we don't really, absolutely know that either. While I do believe that Google has likely "crawled" and indexed more pages than Bing... we have NO IDEA how they each derive their hits metrics. How do they determine if a page is stale? Do they cull stale entries? Does one provider find no value in keeping something indexed to a keyword when it becomes the 20+ millionth hit on the keyword in terms of "associativeness" rankings? Do they treat the count of the metric the same... that is, does one provider count a single web page with 4 images of automobiles and 20 mentions of automobiles as 24 hits (each mention), 5 hits (1 for text content with 20 mentions, one for each image that was a separate GET request), or 1 single hit (they all occurred on the same webpage)? We don't know any of this. Its a vague metric that likely is of limited use in comparisons between providers.
sadly google is still king. it depends what im searching for ddg just dies not give the best results most of the time
Only Google. Why would I use other search engines when the one I currently use works perfectly fine. I use Bing rarely, only when I need to look up for specific Microsoft/Windows stuff.
I also use this,& also DDG & start page. I'm now trying--->EPIC When i 1st tried Epic search engine it didn't work, then one day i installed Epic browser & it worked. So i take the both work in conjuction.
