Really nice and fast program. I didn't abandon Google Reader, but I'm now using QuiteRSS as well - the portable version: http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/quiterss-portable. Hopefully, they will eventually add sync with Google Reader: http://code.google.com/p/quite-rss/issues/detail?id=83
Currently using Google Reader but not entirely happy with it. I used RSS Bandit way back when but it has pretty much been abandoned. I was liking FeedDemon when it was free. Then it went ad supported. I had no complaint with that. Then the developer started stripping features from it to make a paid version again. The free one was stripped of features and still contains ads. I can accept one or the other, but not both. I don't feel the paid version is worthy of the asking price. So ultimately I am hoping to find something new here.

If I had not come to my earlier decision to stop using RSS on my computer, I guess I would have felt a greater impact with Google Reader being discontinued. I still have yet to explore other web-based options but I'm not in a rush atm. Anyway, I'm not so sure if this fits here but I hope someone might find it useful... On my Android phone, I've been using Pulse and/or Flipboard. I tend to use Pulse more often though due to it keeping the articles downloaded and making it available when I'm offline. It's my go-to app for reading when I'm on public transport and I have nothing else to do. Give it a try if you haven't...

Now it's The Old Reader, followed by CommaFeed. They were the only ones to have (virtually) all of the items on this feed, and familiar to a former Google Reader user.
I reverted to using Feedly ever since LinkedIn killed the Pulse reader app. I use Pocket for offline reading and it's archive feature.
The most convenient use of RSS for me is through Mozilla Thunderbird. It's simple and straightforward, nothing fancy. It just works. Also, I like the fact that it's all integrated together with my email and calendars.

Yes, I'm using Thunderbird as my RSS reader again. It's just convenient to have your emails and feeds in one place. I'm using it with uBlock Origin running in an extended hard blocking mode (including blocking of inline and 1st party scripts by default) and allow for each feed only what's absolutely necessary. For me the optimal solution.
