Can these two work together well or will it be a big mess? I am wondering if I could turn off certain modules in one or the other so it won't be as much overlap?
You can use ublock lists on adguard and vice-versa. Why do you want to keep both? You probably won't experience any problem by running both together but it will be redundant
I use both without problem. Ublock Origin serves mostly as a (better)Noscript alternative and Adguard as my adblocker.
I like the parental control, malware filter and stealth mode features of adguard and the dynamic filtering in ublock
Basically there is nothing you can do con ublock that you can't with Adguard except the dynamic filtering
And dynamic filtering is quite problematic thing because it can easily break sites. Adguard developers have got reasons to avoid this.
I beg your pardon? 1. Dynamic filtering is not enabled by default in uB0. It's only available for advanced users who know what they are doing. 2. How much is blocked and how many sites break depends on which blocking mode is chosen. For advanced users Dynamic Filtering a very powerful and versatile tool. The only "problematic" thing here is your undifferentiated sweeping argument.

The links summerheat provided to you offer valuable information on how ublockO works, how easy it really is to use, and just how powerful a wide-spectrum blocker it is. If one is willing to spend a bit of time reading, they will find it will not "easily break sites" if the appropriate Blocking mode is chosen to suit the user's preferences, yet even a lightweight Blocking mode can and will stop potentially dangerous content such as embedded iframes. As for the question of using it together with Adguard, no I wouldn't bother.
