Ok all aok I hope for now. Booted W7P64 into Safe Mode. Re-enabled Never10 & that reset GWX Control Panel. As I type after rebooting to regular desktop both programs deny w10 upgrade.

    But WHAT HAPPENEDo_O

Have you installed any of your hidden KBs pertaining to Win10 updates?

None. And I was using my computer & watching horrified as GWX Control Panel started blinking.

That's weird. Anything showing up in the Event Logs during that time?

An obvious question here. Is your system clock correct? Like your BIOS battery didn't die on you? If the clock shows prior to 7/30/2016, MS will still start serving up Win 10 upgrades.

Clock is correct. Laptop plugged in & no time variations.

Did you do a pre-7/30 image restore recently? Although that should not be a factor, you never can tell with Windows.

I don't recall what those two programs actually change/monitor, and more importantly, what they don't. Maybe it wouldn't make sense in your config, but do you find any related Scheduled Tasks that are enabled and were run at that time? Something under TaskScheduler->Microsoft->Windows->Setup->gwx for example? Another approach, if you have task history enabled, would be to look in EventViewer->Microsoft->Windows->TaskScheduler.

It shouldn't matter, as the free upgrade period is over, so the only way to get Windows 10 now is to manually install it.
