What is your first impression? Has your machine's performance improved, anything visibly different?

Regarding Windows 10 Anniversary update, here are my observations and dislikes.

Post moved to a more appropriate topic.

@Osaban: does feel snappier. Also Task Manager shows very little activity.

Pleasant, settle visual differences. Documented Start Menu changes being one of them.

Use this tool. It may take more than one try. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12387/windows-10-update-history

Today's update broke a couple of things on my system:
    1. Had to reinstall Wireless network driver
    2. Had to reinstall Bluetooth Software as my BT Mouse stopped working
    3. Had to reinstall Sound Blaster software as Volume control was broken

Any others Windows 10 users with small issues?

And try again and again if it doesn't work the first time.

The Get the anniversary update now tool should put an icon on your desktop so you can try the upgrade at anytime.

DISM didn't fix it --- the link for System Readiness Update Tool for Win 10 in Microsoft Support doesn't work:

    "The page isn’t redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

NP-I can live without it. No hurry to find a fix.

ronjor and triple helix: Yes, that's where I downloaded the file. When I run it it executes and does the preliminaries, but the actual updating stops at 2% and says"Something went wrong with the update error code 0x80070057."

ronjor i have tried many times.

Maybe when it comes through in the Windows Updater it will work. The rollout hasn't reached my PC yet.

Someone posted the downloadable (not full) installers from MS here: https://community.webroot.com/t5/Se...Windows-10-Version-1607-KB3176929/td-p/262882 note not for Enterprise versions of Windows 10.

It took four tries for me to get it. If the tool checks your computer and it is okay, try the download again.
The error code I got is different from the code you are talking about.

Is the windows 10 upgrade assistant icon on your desktop?

Ronjor when you tried the downloader again did you get the full download or just the 5.5 Mb exe?

When I redownload and execxute the new download it just restarts the already downloaded upgrade file that was downloaded on my first attempt. Does that sound right?

Also when I run the Win Updater Diagnostic it has to start "cryptsvc sytem and exe" every time. But even after doing that the same thing happens.

I have posted my issue on the Microsoft Support Site. From past experience I expect a scripted answer that won't help some time in the Fall.

The tool should check everything on your computer without any other diagnostic tools.

The actual file containing Win10 is in the cloud as they say.

So, I would download the tool again and let it run again. If it doesn't work again, download the tool again and try again. It won't hurt anything. Again is the key word. :)

I tried the Media Creation Tool today from Win 7, but it failed big time. After reconsidering a bit, I have decided to just wait for a month or so and see what feedback comes in from the public. I think MS has made some changes to group policy that may make it hard for programs like O&O Shutup 10 to do what it's been doing in the past. Not sure though, so I'll take a wait and see attitude for now.

Problem resolved here, I was using 'Windows10Upgrade28084.exe' and that gave the error. I used the regular Media Creation Tool, and it worked fine.

    Hope that helps someone.

I've just finished the anniversary update without a hitch, and I agree it feels faster although I can't see anything different so far except the UAC notification being bigger... Everything is working perfectly so far, not a small feat considering the size of the update (more like a service pack).

I've upgraded one of my computers to the anniversary update so far. I had some initial problems, but it is running well now.

When the upgrade finished, Windows loaded to a black desktop with no Start Menu, or Task Bar. There was no disk activity to indicate that Windows was actually still getting things ready, and only very minimal CPU use. I started explorer.exe from Task Manager, and then the desktop and Start Menu, appeared for a second or two before everything disappeared again. When I rebooted, everything was working, but from time to time, everything would dissapear again for a split second. It looked like explorer was crashing and then restarting. The issue has gone away now. It may have been due to one of Lenovo's power management tools, or some other Lenovo system utilitiy. I uninstalled 18 Lenovo programs from my computer, since I'm using an HP now and am not going to switch back to my Thinkpad.

My laptop has working sound now. After taking the SSD from my Thinkpad and putting in a different computer two days ago, I've had all sorts of device problems, one of them being that I was unable to install sound drivers. Also, there were a few other devices, I could not install drivers for. This was a stange issue, as when I had previously done a clean install of Windows 10 on the same laptop, Windows was able to find drivers for just about evey device, and the few it couldn't find I was able to install with driver update software.

So far, Windows is running really well, and most likely I will be able to finally install Windows Updates again after months of them refusing to install.
