The best is when not to use any of them. There is absolutely no reason for such panic. Moreover, all of them will impair the Windows work and stability and Microsoft (Windows) does not use only one channel to get feedback, etc. And, finally, what will depend on it, how Microsoft can not get feedback about 1% -2% of users. Of course, Microsoft is not interested in it, who are you and what are you doing. There is other interests. Which ones? Of course, these are commercial interests.
Fixed that for you. This is as false as the flat-earth BS. I've used Destroy Windows 10 Spying + ShutUp10 + SpyBot Antibeacon, all of them on the tightest options available, and Windows worked perfectly. I don't care, really. Users should be allowed to not send any data to Microsoft, and they're capable of doing that with these tools. Yeah, right (wink).
I watched a video by mrizos about "Making Windows 10 Run Blazingly Fast". Among the suggestions proffered is "Step 2 - Turning off Windows 10 Data Collection" not only it frees cpu resources but it makes the OS more private in relation to MS data collection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V_ZSi9BeEA (he talks about it at 4:30 minutes) (this is a repeat of one my posts in another thread which might be of interest given the topic of privacy). I voted 'I tweak it manually', also mrizos reckons that after major updates MS resets these settings to default...
none as alot of them block hostnames that are nothing to do with microsoft and as well as other important stuff. I use manual configuration on my win10 box.
O&O ShutUp 10 and manual. Some info from Emsisoft: http://blog.emsisoft.com/2015/09/02/the-truth-about-windows-10-spying-on-almost-everything-you-do/
If Emsisoft recommends it, it has to be good. Just installed it and running at recommended settings. Beats the hell out of trying to block all the telemetry by URL or IP address which I was just going to start to do. -EDIT- Appears to use WIN 10 group policy registry settings which is good.
Can we expect a new and improved version soon after the Anniversary Update that blocks Cortana, and possibly advertising?
Thanks for the feedback so far. The votes confirm the impression I previously had that O&O ShutUp10 is a few steps above the rest. The company behind it feels trustable as well.
I've checked out Spybot Anti-Beacon for Win 8.1, and it might be my imagination, but it seems that just about all phoning home to M$ has stopped.
I use O&O shut up 10,which I recommend.. Anti-Beacon is not updated often enough for its blocking to keep up with M$ telemetry changes.. Any Gaps left by Shut Up 10 are mopped up by the blocking of various M$ services through my firewall. I am a little disappointed by those that see no reason to block excessive data collection, perhaps they do not remember back far enough to see the parallels between this and the erosion of Civil Liberties
Version 1.3.1359 Compatibility with Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Version 1607 Redstone 1). - Cortana can no longer be deactivated over Windows settings: O&O ShutUp10 can still do this. Version 1.4.1383 O&O ShutUp10 is no longer a ZIP that has to be unpacked, but just one single executable file that can be started without installation.
