I am still not able to figure out what will Avast get in return ??
Their technology is already above AVG.

Agreed. Only thing I can think of is customer base. But if the AVG logo, branding, & GUI disappear most folks will run imo. And there goes a substantial amount of customers. The AVG product awareness is huge. They have to keep the AVG brand.

Yes, Avast is the king when it comes to useless shields. :D

I hope they don't retire AVG IDP because it's one of the best behaviour blocker out there.

  8. Deepscreen and Avast webrep will become better, by feeding it more information.

AVG used to buy new technology starting from Ewido to Linkscanner, while Avast used to develop their own.

So maybe some code will cross from AVG to Avast, but they will keep the brand names until user base is ready for the switch (from AVG to Avast), or one brand will be consumer market oriented and the other corporate

"Deepscreen" is no longer a component of Avast since the recent "Nitro Update"...
It has been replaced by "CyberCapture"....

    https://blog.avast.com/cybercapture-protection-against-zero-second-attacks
"CyberCapture evolved from our DeepScreen technology, which used to analyze unknown files locally, in a virtualized “sandbox” environment. DeepScreen had two major problems, though. First, it relied on the NG virtualization component, which wasn’t compatible with all systems (it required certain settings to be enabled in the system BIOS etc.). And second, it allowed the suspicious file to run in the sandbox for only a very short time (typically 10-15 seconds), dramatically reducing the precision of the decision-making algorithm. By moving the technology to the Cloud, and taking all the time needed to properly analyze the file, we are now adding an additional layer of protection that will be extremely difficult for attackers to beat."

My same thoughts. 1.3M would be more reasonable :D

"and replaced with new CyberCapture technology that sends unrecognized and unique files to cloud for analysis, and re-sends the result, i.e either ‘dangerous’ or ‘safe’ to client after further checks"

Not to pick on Avast, but haven't several AVs been doing this for years now?

If I remember correctly AVG at one point had a decent sized portfolio of enterprise clients in Europe. Plus a couple years ago they acquired Norman ASA enterprise clients. I don't believe Avast enterprise market is that large so acquiring AVG will boost that

True. Tune-Up Utilities stopped to enhance and to improve after AVG acquisition.

May be that this is an acquisition to eat AVG and make it disappear, like happened when Online Armor was bought.

I think you will eventually see the AVG name disappear. I can't help but think a lot of AVG users will bail after the name AVG goes away.

Not to be firsties or anything. But I said the same thing here. LOL.

What times these are when it makes fiscal sense to buy your historical rival for 1.3B and shutter them. Crazy days. I know, it's an age thing.

What's amazing is they are taking on about 1.7 billion in new debt to do it and the global economy is not in great shape. If things go south avast will be hurting.

And once the consolidation is finished rest assured there will be people who no longer have a job.

It would be a shame to see a household name like AVG go down the drain! there are a lot of people who truely hate their products , but they have come a long way. the implimentation of a.i. - crowscloud and idp gave their product a big boost in becomming one of the " better " security products detection wise. I hope it will live on , but my senses tell me otherwise.......rip AVG.
