IoT is the next big market for all. we will see how avast+avg will act and survive.

i think IoT will create 4 groups of people
- some wont/dont do
- some will do
- some will do but restricted or less
- the big rest is gray

people like it smart but if some point out sensible data and privacy and protection...
its like smartphone privacy - less will be ok, but hacked?

at first avst+avg should clean up their bad image for end users because their "fantastic" av products suck at all, and avg tuneup is pain in some ass.

 

That is amazing to see how avast who once pioneered free antivirus and has come this far over the years. It goes to show the vast amounts of money that can come to fruition with data collection and number crunching among large user bases. They have played their cards right and certainly earned what they have achieved.

 

Wow just wow!

 

I guess we'll see if this becomes a best of both or is just an "eliminate the competition" opportunity. I have used both products in the past but currently don't use either.

 

Yes, I have to wonder what motivated the Avast folks? Avast is already a comprehensive solution and the better product IMHO. At least it wasn't the other way around [snark]

Well, Avast can take use of the technologies of AVG they lack, especially the behaviour blocker.

 

What kind of value can Avast get from AVG worth 1.3B?

 

I think Avast was once one of the finest freeware AV's. I miss it, I really do. These days I think the company has different priorities. I'm just not sure what they are.

 

The deal, according to Avast, will give the combined company a network of more than 400 million endpoints, 160 million of which are mobile.

 

I think that this decision was made by people that handle money and not by people that handle code...

 

AVG bought Ewido, Avast bought AVG and so it goes round and round. I wonder, which name are they going to use, maybe Avgast?

 

This was also my first expression...
Btw, I am not happy because the number of independent AV engines are decreasing day-by-day.

 

The user base is the only thing I can think about

 

I don't know why they say this was an avast acquisition. This is all CVC Capital and Summit Partners, two private equity companies that own a majority stake in avast but I could be wrong.

Really glad it isn't the otherway round AVG is bloated enough without adding avast stuff in as well.
I do wonder what will happern with avg now. I wonder if they will slowly ditch avg free and grab the best bits from AVG and then just add them to avast?

 

Whatever the reasoning for this deal the price is absurd.
But then nowadays every acquisition, merger or whatever always produces absurd figures.

 

I haven't seen the books. But I'd think wise to keep both brandings.
