Probably never. The free version isn't worked on or maintained very well. It works fine for me, but I wouldn't expect the program to be updated any time soon, if even at all.

Once again, the mandatory and futile correction to Bitdefender AV Free popular misinformation:

    - BDAV Free's primary functionality is in near-totality in the cloud. BDFree has 100% access to all BD cloud services. It doesn't need to be "worked on" or "maintained" locally until it does, like the cloud service (gzserv.exe) which was updated in March.

    - The "Bitdefender Engine" (bdcore.dll) is the current version, 11.0.1.12. As it is for BD's premium products, third-party premium and free "Bitdefender Engine" products. It's been that version for years. "Probably never" would seem to apply to this with respect to "updated any time soon." I think if this dll ever gets a new version, my mouse will blow up...

    - Supporting components for IDS, Anti-Rootkit and Active Virus Control (i.e. injectors avcuf64.dll & avcuf32.dll) etc. etc. are updated in the background and may or may not get a "product update" event log.

    - Yes, BDAV Free works fine on Windows up to 8.1. And will continue to do so until when and if BD declares it EOL.

    - Windows 10, the utmost securest Windows that ever is, doesn't need BDAV Free. Or anything else. :D

I use BD Free in my Win 7 images and setups. For Win 10, I just use Defender. I'd say, if it works for you in 10, then just use it, whether it claims to officially support 10 or not. No big deal..

    You're welcome!

I should also add that the local subset of BD Core "plugin" sigs and defs as well as the AVC databases and other dat and db files are downloaded and applied very soon after they are pushed out to BD's update servers.

I'm not running Free anymore so I can't check if the AVC injectors were updated to 3.12.14344.6406 in April (the current version in BD premium products). But my notes show 3.11.12293.6311 injectors did get updated to 3.12.13582.6399 in January in Free and Premiums.

I tracked other updates in Free over the years but now do so for Internet Security only. I just choose the injectors here as an example of BD's maintaining and working on. Active Virus Control, after all, is BD's flagship product.

Correcting BD Free's abandoned myth is an exercise in futility in which I will no longer participate. (It's like having to post up ad nauseam those recent hi-res orbiter images of the NASA Lander and the Lunar Roving Vehicle tracks to prove humans visited the Moon.) I'm sure Free will become abandoned again once this postings disappear when this thread goes Page 137...

But it DOES bear repeating: Windows 10, the utmost securest Windows that ever is, doesn't need BDAV Free. Or anything else. :D

    Regards.

@Spokesman Are you sure this is an update of the program and not just a new post on the Softpedia site? According to the Bitdefender Forums, Bitdefender Free was last updated on October of 2013 per this product updates thread:

    https://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=40736

Hence the impression that the product itself (not defs or cloud) has basically been abandoned if you want to use that term. If the last product update was indeed October 2013, then very little development of the actual product is taking place, which is what many here in the forum have thought for a long time. Re-read this thread from the early days and you'll see the BD Rep just disappear and no questions ever being answered regarding this product.

Edit: I see that the product version in your link is different, but I'm not altogether sure if it's just a typo or not when you compare it with the one on the BD Forum updates thread. If this is indeed a new version of the program, then evidently they no longer post updates to their own product update thread on their forums.

    Hello.
I warned you to update Softpedia. Antivirus has been updated to version 1.0.21.1109 16/03/16 approximately.
    Best regards.

Ok, I just reloaded my Win 7 image and checked the BD Free version, and it's 1109, the latest. So... I guess they just don't bother updating their forum posts very often. I continue to use BD Free on Win 7 because it just works and works well. On my Win 10 images, I just use Defender, so I don't know if BD Free does or does not run on 10, I have heard that it does, but I have no direct experience with it on 10. And then on my linux images of course I use no AV, which is a great relief at times... :)

It's rather bold statement. For example in latest AV-test Windows 10 doesn't get 100% protection with various AVs. So it cannot protect itself.

I guess Win 10 with Defender is more secure than Win Xp with Bugdefender Free. :thumb:

    Thank you for testing ...

After installing the new beta, the desktop in my Windows 7 x64 VM takes several minutes to appear, hanging with a blackscreen after the boot logo.

Of course. :) I posted the info as a heads up to others. At first I thought the system was borked completely since it only displayed a black screen, but after waiting the desktop appeared.
