anyone know linux mint 18 has the same issue as 17.3 with ASUS pcs or not? mint 17.3 did not work with ASUS MOBY. I could not use it on both of my ASUS pcs.
Hi guys, what Ubuntu version is Mint18 based upon? If 16.04, does Mint18 suffer from the same youth problems as its Ubuntu counterpart? Thanks.
It's based on Ubuntu 16.04. I'm hoping that since it took them over 2 months to clean things up, that Mint 18 might be good. I'll have to try it soon.
if any ASUS brand PC users here used mint 18 64bit or using it, please post it here is it is working fine. Specially if you had problems with 17.3 version. Thanks in advance. mint offers more options and stuffs then peppermint. SO would like to change to it if it works on a ASUS model desktops without having the previous issues.
I have an Asus laptop and had zero problems with 17.3. I'm installing 18 now and will let you know, but I'm not expecting any issues.
hmm. i have 2 asus desktops and was never able to use linux mint 17.3. it never loaded or installed and received error previous versions were fine. did you installed 64bit version? 17.2 was fine for me. something happened or changed in 17.3 that caused the issue.
So far Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 looks fantastic. No issues at all, and it's obvious that they've taken the buggy Ubuntu code and cleaned it up a lot. This seems very clean. Uhm, yes, I'm running the x64 version also. I'm impressed so far. Time will tell if any issues surface, but so far, so good.. If you don't mind a little work, I'd suggest you make an image of what you've got now, and then give 18 a try.
i am familiar with image making in windows but I do not know of any image making programs for linux? anything similar to macrium reflect. I do not know how to make a image of my peppermint 6? I am willing go through a fresh install of mint 18 if it is working good but it would be a pain to go back to peppermint again if mint 18 was buggy.
Well, it's entirely up to you. There is no guarantee that 18 won't have problems on your machine while running great on mine, right? I've been using it all night here and so far I'm pleased. For linux, I use CloneZilla. The user interface is cruder than something like Macrium, but it gets the job done, and has never failed me yet after years of use. At any rate, comparing the 2, Ubuntu 16.04 and Mint 18, I found Ubuntu pretty buggy, but have yet to see any sign of a bug or issue at all in Mint. I think they did a great job cleaning up the mess that was Ubuntu 16.04 and building Mint 18 out of it. It was worth the wait IMO.
did mint 17.3 use Ubuntu 16.04 or another version? From what i read the ASUS issues some people had were about a change to the ubuntu in 17.3 from 17.2. SO i do not know about 18.0?
Why don't you download the 18 ISO, make a live USB, and test it out without installing it? This way you can easily identify whether this new version still has problem with your computer or not.
Installed this in a VM yesterday. Nice Maybe they'll get this Linux stuff polished up to my satisfaction about the same time Windows goes to a subscription model. Assuming they do. Which I assume they will.
Running the Mate version for the past week and beautifully. Have not encountered any issues. Cpu is as low as it gets and memory usage around 520MB with full custom theme, compiz, Firejail, Apparmor and DNSproxy. Same setup less compiz on Mint 17.3 XFCE and memory usage was around 450MB. Very stable, no screen tearing or jittering when scrolling long pages in both browser and libreoffice. Must admit though Mint Y themes are horribly inconsistent across the desktop. Open up Control centre and on the left side where groups are click any group. What happens?...The entire section is shaded with the font unreadable. Using the Arc theme instead and I find it is much more complete and there are no inconsistencies in themed elements. None the less, it is very nice indeed. Regards.
I wonder if it will be officially supported to upgrade to v18 from 17.3. I do realise that upgrading is not always the best option, but it's what I prefer to do. For example when a new version of Windows is released, I always upgrade from the previous version, rather than doing a clean install.
