This is one of the reasons why I never enabled UAC...Now when I try to send a file to another pc or vice versa I get the "destination folder access denied" error. How do I fix this?
Check access rights on destination folder and re-map the drive. If you map a drive with admin credentials they are not accessible without admin credentials (even if you are logged in as same user) and vice versa.
Do I right click on the mapped drive and click properties,security tab,advanced button at the bottom? or edit button?
Ok there's a difference in drives which makes sense...c-drive has nothing ticked and storage drive has everything ticked other than full control... so do I just tick everything in the c-drive permissions to match how it is in the storage drive permissions? Am I clicking on the correct group?
Yes, if you need to modify content then give those permissions, if you need read only than uncheck Modify option. P.S.: I hope that this is not your system drive, if it is then give permissions only on shared folders and not the whole system drive.
i think" authenticated users" need an account on that pc, try "Users" instead. (in german it would be "Jeder" with read/write/modify - means anyone who is logged in at this pc and connected to the local network) there is no need to add special users or user groups! btw - no matter of UAC, just rights PS you can not share system drives (eg remote c:\) as easy - those are protected by other windows. use shared common folders instead which are given by default
I am able to share files now if I copy to and from my D drive and shared folders on my C drive but not directly to C:\
If you use UAC you will get UAC prompt if you want to copy anything to c:\. Only administrator has write permissions on c:\
I do not get any prompts, it just says access denied which is driving me nuts! I can't figure it out Basically I have read access to any C:\ directory (any computer on the network) but writing is denied.
Yes you won't get UAC prompt when you try to write to c:\ over mapped drive, you will get it only when you try to write file on local machine (e.g. copy file from c:\folder to c:\ ). You can not elevate your privileges on targeted computer accessing it through file share so this operation will be blocked. Again, I don't think it's wise to share c:\
Well it's just annoying that I was able to before but not now (whatever the reason is) but I am able to share to a folder so I suppose i'll let it be for now. Thanks for the assistance.
