noticed another issue - I use Zenmate addon occasionally to hide my IP or on public networks. I can't get it work with Heimdal installed. Anyone successfully use a full VPN or browser add-on (i think called a secure proxy) along with Heimdal?
Spoke too soon in #694. Heimdal issues persist even after removing ZAM. Edit: From Support - 'Heimdal works alongside antiviruses, it complements them. Zemana Anti-Malwareis not an antivirus.'
@paulderdash Try to check .Net 3.5 in Windows Features if the OS you use has one. Mine's default is unchecked. I checked it, and Heimdal PRO started to work with fewer problems. I still uninstalled it because of slow browsing and other things.
I was initially impressed with Heimdal and bought into it a few months ago. However, it's disappointing to see that the version number of the prog has hardly moved in six months and the issues I had are still being reported here. I uninstalled it three months ago and haven't missed it. Pity, because I thought/still think it has promise.
I think is still overpriced for what it does: Software patching with a very limited scope (similar to secunia or SUMO) IP/domain blocker (similar to any free app that works with host files) http://www.flexerasoftware.com/ente...ility-management/personal-software-inspector/
Traffic patern detection? IPS for home users? I doubt it. Probably is based on a host/ip list. There are no many paterns you can detect at network level in a home user PC, a server would be different.
It would be good if someone from Heimdal (do you hear me, @Andra Zaharia?) would come in here and explain what the "malware scanning" feature involves.
Andra hasn't posted in almost 2 months, wonder why? Not good strategy if your trying to promote a product.
Here's some info regarding Heimdal https://heimdal.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/204185685/Whitepaper_V2_2.2.0.pdf (Everytime I attempted to read it from my laptop it started downloading, so I had to installed a pdf viewer to simply see it on the browser) Page. 35. 6.1.3. Detection of data stealing or financial malware The built in detection module for advanced malware cannot be compared to traditional antivirus products, as it works entirely different. It should not serve as a replacement for antivirus, but as a supplement. 6.1.3.1. Technical implementation Heimdal’s detection of malware is based on configuration files, computer events and Internet traffic as opposed to a classic antivirus product, which is based on signatures and file access. Heimdal is therefore very effective against data or financial malware, which rely on these approaches to penetrate computers, but is therefore not effective against traditional viruses. Heimdal also incorporates a heuristics traffic detection engine for malware combined with a detection engine based on statistical analysis. If data stealing or financial malware is detected a red smiley will be displayed in the client and on the process bar. Heimdal will also provide a link to a suggested removal tool, but will not attempt to remove the malware itself only block it from transmitting data from the system to the malicious servers. It's 53 pages. And I haven't read it all, so there might be more info I'm not aware of.
The Heimdal website still lists her as their "MARCOM Manager". https://heimdalsecurity.com/en/about Under her picture are also links to her Linked IN page and her Twitter handle/page. So, someone might consider contacting her via one of those routes?? Her Linked In pages lists her as "Public Relations and Communications".
I think my issues with Heimdal may be due to running it alongside Adguard. I am awaiting response from Adguard. Heimdal do say: https://heimdal.zendesk.com/hc/en-u...f-my-Antivirus-is-blocking-Heimdal-s-traffic- !Highly important: Do not use Heimdal's Traffic Filtering engine in combination with another traffic scanning application because one will block the other and none of them will work 100%. We recommend you disable other traffic scanning applications installed locally before you enable Heimdal's Traffic Filtering engine.
Now my Pro license was dropped & will not re-activate... Oh well, got it free anyway & I can't be bothered to try to fix it - I see others are having this issue repeatedly. So unfortunately i've uninstalled
What do you mean by your license was "dropped and will not re-activate"? Do you get the "Invalid Key" message?
I think that's what it was - "invalid key". Pro was working for a few weeks - then it switched to Free
