Safely remove USB

I use programs like "USB Safely Remove" or "Zentimo" on some Win 7 installations but have not installed anything on the new Win 10 setup. I see this has a pretty good inbuilt feature - is anyone still bothering with external programs for this purpose? Any particular features they would have in addition to the native option?

 

In Win10 Disk Management look at Properties (for the UFD), Policies, Removal policy. Quick removal (default) indicates you can just pull the UFD out without using the Safely Remove Hardware icon.

 

I would say the only precaution would be not to yank it out while files are opened... There could be some data loss, otherwise it is pretty safe.

 

I use USB Safely Remove (which I got as a giveaway) with flash drives under Windows 10, as sometimes I get errors when I remove a flash drive after copying files to it. I usually don't bother using it before unplugging USB hard drives though.

 

Yeah, it gives me the ability to hide drives that I don't want to remove.

 

Am I right in assuming that the policy is set for the UFD irrespective of the pc or laptop used? So, if this particular UFD has the default policy enabled, I don't need to bother on any laptop/pc I use this UFD?

 

Every Win10 computer I've used has that Policy. I just pull the UFD out without "Safely Removing".

 

To be frank, I didn't even know or think about programs for this purpose. I always use system built-in option.

 

+1... and the in-built options still offer some choices, by providing you with the ability to take out without mouse-clicks or with...

 

Well, there is far more utility, enhancements and under-the-hoodness to the app than just removal, safe or otherwise.

Especially for an app that isn't necessary.

 

I find it to be very useful, as I can be sure it is safe to remove a USB drive, but I got is as a giveaway - I wouldn't pay for it.
