I think the only time you would notice VS has froze is either when you check something in Settings, or if you notice the Desktop Gadget is red or blue when it shouldn't be. I tend to check Settings fairly often and that is when I notice it most. VS freezes for me only after I am prompted to block or allow something. It never freezes if I put VS in either Training or Install Mode before installing or updating something, only when prompted out of the blue.

    YMMV

Yesterday VS, which was in Install mode, froze for the first time. No Chrome, Cyberfox or any browser open.
Right-click to set back to Smart mode or exit did nothing, neither restarting the service. Only reboot cured it.
    Will install 3.22 today.

VS 3.22 is running great here to with zero performance impact on my machines and toggles in Smart Mode exactly as it should, but then VS has been the same for the last few months. The test will come when I am prompted for something out of the blue, as that is when VS has froze on me not long after.

No VS is all messed up. I just had to uninstall and now I am going after the newest version of Beta. I will be back..I don't think installing over the old one worked so well? Working now on 8.1 after 159 updates may of messed this up?

The latest version is running fine here, I'll post something if it freezes again. The last and only time it did, it seemed somewhat random as it hasn't happened since then.

I was getting VS freezing 3-4 times a day since 3.10 and above and it always seemed to happen when the shield color was On (blue) and everything was closed. Right clicking the icon then caused the freeze. I noticed that it was On because on my Windows 10 x64, the mail app was checking for emails in the background and turning on and off. I deselected the mail app in the VS settings just to see if it would make a difference and it has been 2 days with no freezing.

Don't know if this means anything or just a coincidence but is very nice not to have VS freeze. In the meantime, i'll check the emails through Chrome or Vivadi.

I will catch up on the other posts I missed, but I wanted to respond to this one right away.

Thank you M_G_H, this is very interesting... it reminded me of a time when VS 3.09 froze for me, and I emailed Vlad about it, and it turned out to be the USB detection, but I think we never got around to fixing this issue. Anyway, if the freeze issue still happens, please let me know and I will create a version of VS that has the USB detection disabled, and if that does not freeze, we will know for sure what the issue was, and it should be an easy fix.

The thing is, I am pretty sure that there were at least 2-3 different bugs making VS freeze, and hopefully we will have them all fixed in the next couple of days.

    Thank you!

Talking about USB detection, with 3.22 when I insert an external USB HDD into a USB port VS shows as On, but the letters USB no longer show on the Desktop Shield Gadget. Can we get that back please? It shows at a glance that a drive is connected to a USB port. I had closed my browser and wondered why VS was showing On and went into Settings to find which Web App was running, then I remembered I had a USB drive connected.

    Thanks.

Edit: Hang on a minute, I just inserted an external HDD into a USB on my other machine and it DOES have USB on the shield. I think the above happens if you plug in the drive while a browser, or other Web App is running.

I checked USB, connected a WD external drive in my USB 2 port and immediately VS froze. I have the VS menu open showing setting, autopilot, whitelisting modes and on down and clicking on any of them or the VS blue shield does anything. First time that's happened but it's the first time I've connecteed the external drive since installing VS. It never occurred to me to check the external drive. Using VS 3.22.

How strange! 3.22 still has not froze on me (yet), even after inserting HDDs in to USB ports on two machines.

If I get other freezes, I will let you know. I did update to 3.22 and still running fine, tried inserting a USB device and no freezes for now.

It's strange. I've never had a problem before with VS. I'm running Win 10 Pro 64 bit. Just tried the external hdd again. This time no problem. Removed it and connected again. All is okay. I don't know what the freeze was, except that I had to reboot to get VS working again.

Cool, thank you guys... yeah, I think there is a bug in the USB code that might be causing VS to freeze.

Also, I just noticed that if you have multiple user accounts on one computer, and you Switch User (instead of logging off), VS does not like that too much, and it can really act up. It should be a simple fix, but I just never thought to check it before.

Thanks again, I will catch up soon!

Dan, just an FYI - None of the freezes I've seen on my machines has been related to USB drives. Of course the mileage of others may vary.

I've had VS freeze when I've removed a USB stick; the desktop shield doesn't seem to recognise the device has been removed and still displayes the USB label
Also, VS occasionally freezes when I restart the PC from sleep mode although I've only one user account here.
