Are there any memory optimizers that work better than cleanmem? I have found that it doesn't really work very well on my laptop. I hate to have to reboot frequently after doing things like archiving with winrar which loves to slow this laptop down alot! Doing alot of file transferring causes slowdown and sluggishness also. TIA
By default Cleanmem optimizes every 15 mins, if you are doing a lot of operations, lower it to 5 mins in task scheduler or setup its minimonitor.
I use IObit's Smart RAM which is included with Advanced SystemCare Pro, and it does give a very noticable drop in RAM usage. I just had 60 Chrome tabs open on my 6GB Windows 10 laptop, and RAM usage was at just 44%. It frees more RAM than CleanMem and similar software does, and if you only use the Smart RAM Compression and not Deep Clean it does this without allocating and then freeing large amounts of RAM. I have not noticed any performance drop from using it, on my laptop. If you Google IObit Smart RAM 3.0 you should be able to find a portable version of Smart RAM, so you don't have to buy ASC Pro to use it.
Jeremy, creator of Process Lasso, strongly advises against "memory optimizers". He would even advise against using his very own software's Process Lasso SmartTrim. I think he would say that SmartTrim should only be enabled on systems with very low memory. And it should be enabled with care and knowledge of what would happen.
I use MemInfo only for info, not for memory cleaning. I did by mistake use the memory defrag function one time, and it didn't cause any problems. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/meminfo.html
I reached out to Shane, the developer of CleanMem and asked him to check in here. In the meantime, here is his response: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Long time bud I have been so busy with tweaking.com I havent updated pcwintech much. Did you read the page on my site about how cleanmem works? Because I have seen the same thread and comments a LOT. Old memory cleaners worked by filling the memory forcing windows to move memory to the page file, thus slowing things down while making it look like memory was free when it wasnt. This is why you get the people who cry snake oil so fast. They learned it a long time ago and never learned there is a proper way. Same as new techs to this day telling people to leave their computers on all the time, which it is actually not good to do that now unlike what it was like back in windows 95 days. In this case I am rather proud that Cleanmem was the first to do it right and holy freaking crap the s**hit storm that followed lol I use a Windows API to do the job, so the memory isn't filled up and pushed the the page file, the API is just triggering Windows to do the memory management instead of waiting till the memory is full before it finally kicks in. I have 32 GB of ram and I still use Cleanmem. I had users say "Memory is there to be used! It should be filled if it can" To that I say "Yes and so is my hard drive, but I dont want it filled with trash and junk, I want it filled with stuff I need. Memory is no different, it is just faster." Take care. Shane www.tweaking.com www.pcwintech.com
Not just laptops, many devices come with 1GB RAM and pre-installed 10, cleanmem really helps there and in situations like that.
must be a RT build, not a normal desktop/home. RT is much lighter - and for ARM structures. win10 desktop will perform on 4gig or higher better, 2gig are not enough. same for win8 - even opera/chrome etc with multi-process need for itself 2gig or more. 2gig for windows makes 4gig++.
CleanMem now offers a "Pro" monitor for $4.99. Using that, you can set CleanMem to kick-in ONLY when a a prescribed percentage of RAM is in use -- you prescribe the percentage. The default percentage is 75%. I set mine at 50%. Ergo, CleanMem takes no action as long as RAM usage stays within the user-prescribed percentage. I prefer this approach VERSUS having CleanMem do a sweep every 15 minutes. CleanMem has a neato little green thing that sits in my system tray, uses no discernible amount of cpu cycles or I/O delta, & constantly shows percentage of RAM in use. I use CleanMem because I have a favorite program that has a memory leak. They're working to fix it but, in the meantime, CleanMem transforms the *problem* into the "No-sweat-um-dolly" category.
Thanks for the info, that is a reasonable price. Though I have to think twice about it, since I lost trust in dev after finding out, he is a jerk.
Or you can try this one: Mem Reduct http://www.henrypp.org/product/memreduct I use it only for displaying the available RAM, so i don't know if it's effective at cleaning memory. There's no CPU-Usage, only sometimes 0,08%. RAM-Usage = 3-4MB
I don't know how you would have gotten that opinion. Shane always been very helpful when I've talked to him by email or private message here at Wilders.
