That's great to hear. :thumb: I hope they won't change their mind.

I wouldn't have Win 10 even if they gave it away. :argh:

I figured they would stop the nags when it stopped being free. I wonder how many people that are complaining about the nags now will also complain when it isn't free anymore... :argh:

If by nags you mean ramming it down the user's throat, then yeah, nags... :)

Probably a lot. While they are kicking themselves for not taking advantage of the free offer.

I think some of them will be thanking their lucky stars profusely that they didn't take advantage of the free "offer"... :)

What I meant was take advantage of the offer while it is free and then revert to the OS you prefer. If you change your mind in the future you can still install Win10 for free. All bases covered.

Yeah, I'm just half-kidding. That's what I did, I upgraded and then went back to 7. I have images of both and can put on whatever I desire at any time. Easy enough...

    Daveski17,

Do you have an image of Win10? Just in case you change your mind in the distant future?

I have an image in my mind ... if that counts? Seriously though, if I ever decide to run Win 10 I'll wait until it is much more finished and compatible with many of the programs I run. In a couple of years it might be OK, so if I wanted it that badly, I'd be prepared to pay for it.

I'll believe it when I see it.
I do too and it's how sneaky M$ is on "Forcing the Upgrade".
Beware Win 7 & 8 users on M$ bag of tricks to get you to upgrade by July 29. You know they will try every trick in the book!

Exactly. Windows 7 is 7 years old. It's not going to run forever.

'Sneaky' isn't quite the adjective I would use, but at least it won't be moderated lol. MS can 'sneak off' as far as I'm concerned. ;)

No, not forever, but M$ will be providing extended support for Win 7 until January 14, 2020.

Seems like only yesterday people said that about XP... Not criticizing your choice to run it. Do what pleases you. But I would at least claim the Windows 10 activation even it I didn't use it yet. That 3 years and 8 months will be gone before you know it.

I'm pretty sure I'll be running an iMac in three years and eight months time. ;)

I'm really curious about running a W7 machine with no more updates .... ever !

I have had my updates option set to " Never " for over a year now .
Starting with each Bork Tuesday , I carefully watch this thread ( and what Woody says ) for a two-week quarantine period.
But every time I do a search for W7 updates ( and wait for an hour minimum ) I promise myself that this is going to be the last time

There's always that outside chance that some sneaky plooker , or script-kiddie , will create malware to directly exploit
unpatched W7 systems , but in reality , I reckon that is a very slim chance .

Slightly off-topic .... I've been playing with Spybot Anti-Beacon , which can shut down ALL M$ telemetry , but allows the
user a good bit of fine-grain control , and it has recently been extended to cover W10 intrusion on W7 and W8.x systems.
It's the same type of tool as " GWX Control Panel " ..... but way more savage :thumb: ( eg Telemetry host blocking is included )

There is a fun video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1kGMCfb2xw&feature=youtu.be for anyone interested ( my thanks to caspian for posting )
I have it set " full on " for this machine so I'm guessing that my next update search will totally fail to connect to any M$ servers.
I do weekly backups so I don't care if this rig gets hosed , and I've got a dual boot laptop kicking around that I will keep updated.

My plan is to never again do routine W7 updates on this machine ..... and I'll see what happens :D

Good plan. I may be running Linux by then, depending on how other software shapes up. I see Microsoft is planning SQL Server for it. If they would do Office I am gone. But I'm currently no less happy with Windows 10 than any other version available.

" In Microsoft we trust "

I'm glad 10 is working out for you. I personally just can't see the advantage in upgrading an OS that already works perfectly fine. My laptop was bought with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS preinstalled. I've never regretted buying that Lenovo laptop.
