    Hi folks,

Been using their services since about 2010. Was using their Internet Guide for content filtering at home to block nasties and also ads.

Due to a change in their policy, I think I am jumping ship. I know OpenDNS is one but I do not believe that the block ads (a big one for me).

Can any of you guys share your experience(s) with other alternatives that do indeed block ads?

    Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind. I ended up setting up OpenDNS and blocked ads by adding some well known ad domains to the Always Blocked category. So far so good. If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to chime in. Thanks.

Norton DNS is good for blocking malware. They also have alternate servers that will block adult content.

For ads I just use Adblock Plus on all browsers. Some prefer other ad blockers, but I use it for the consistent experience as they have plugins for IE, Chrome, Firefox, and will have one for Edge in the near future.

If there are domains you just want to block outright, you can always put them in your HOSTS file and set the IP Address to 0.0.0.0 (faster and smaller than 127.0.0.1).

I find FoolDNS interesting but I believe they are based out of France, too much latency from the U.S.
I had never heard of Alternate DNS. Also looks interesting. I think I will test it out, but I don't see any info about where or who they are.

    I use Norton ConnectSafe :thumb:
    • Preferred DNS: 199.85.126.10
    • Alternate DNS: 199.85.127.10
