You said "was using..."; since you didn't have any problems, why did you stop using it? ....just curious.

For teh webbuhnetz challenged who fail to notice the absence of Windows 10 for system requirements on the BDAV Free page, upon clicking the download button, one is presented with a page overlay with a mention sort of like alluding to the suggestion that maybe it might... NOT be for Windows 10. Of course, that's up for interpretation.

This forces  the purchase of BD premium products for Windows 10 users. (Yes, I know BD isn't forcing anyone to do anything. But that absurd sentiment has been expressed by unfortunate individuals throughout teh webbuhnetz forums & social media.)

That said, that one can install it on Windows 10 where it appears to run OK is a serious and inarguable fail in BD's corporate character.

I wanted to try Windows Defender now that it's part of the OS itself, currently working just fine. I've always tried to run my systems as lean and light as possible so by not adding a 3rd party antivirus.

After trying out all the best free AVs, I have returned to BD Free, it is the lightest and simplest AV out there thus far, at least on my config.

I don't like abandonware with autoquarantine.

The BD core scan/heuristic engine has been v11.0.1.12 for Free, Premiums, third party and "free Bitdefender engine" products for years.

Free's Active Virus Control components are background updated. The libraries (i.e. avcuf64.dll) went from 3.11 to 3.12 on January 26 for all BD products. (AVC is their flagship behavior blocker and, for my most recent recollection, only one or two third party developers buy its SDK for their premium products.)

Other support files (smartdb.dat, etc. etc.) are updated as needed also.

BD Free has full access to BD's Gonzales/Nimbus cloud services. Gonzales got an update last month. It's version number is what shows in the UI. The previous version was over two years in effect which presented that Free itself was that much left behind, a mistaken notion perpetrated ad nauseam by the clueless.

    BD Free is NOT abandonware.

Well, unless one chose to march lockstep behind Microsoft's Window 10 brass and drum band or was suckered or tricked into it. While I think BD will step up eventually, it remains a superior free solution for Windows products which currently have the predominant global presence.

Autoquarantine, I agree. Others don't. It's an argument that's been going on for years and will continue to do so.

As for what one likes or not, that's a matter of opinion - everyone has one. Just like an ordure port. :D

Hate to ask get you involved in posting up nasty highly technical details but... what is the version number?

Last month there was an update 1.0.21.1109 from .1099 after a lengthy hiatus. Yet another update in such a short period of time would suggest a renewed interest by BD in the product.

Their homepage seem to be outdated as well:

Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition 2014, optimized for Win 8 - the latest Windows ... Well done Bitdefender, what a great security company! :( I don't recommend it any more.

They obviously does not want people to use it, especially since they lie, when people try to download it, claiming that it does not offer Windows 10 protection. They mean, it does not offer billions of other features, only realtime. But they still keep it alive for some purpose, strange. :doubt:

They keep it alive because it's an excellent free solution for the vast majority of active Windows systems. BD Free has all sorts of billions of features: BDcore and B-HAV signature and heuristic engines, IDS, Active Virus Control and full access to BD's Gonzales/Nimbus cloud services, realtime and context on-demand. It DOES NOT offer Windows 10 protection. Period. I couldn't care less about what solution anyone uses, but BD doesn't deserve your uniformed babble nor does anyone who is mining for info on the product to find your ridiculous fabrications. BD isn't lying to anyone about anything.

Those Capitalist Pigs! No worry, comrade, it will be different after The Revolution.

Do not know, while you are protecting them so much, but they are obviously lying and that is that, a pure fact, sad as it is, nothing will change that.

BD Free is "ok" as far as it goes.. but don't expect them to put any work into it at all, they won't. That was readily apparent years ago when one of their reps was posting here in this thread on this forum and then basically just disappeared. They don't care about the free product, and they won't improve it. If it works for you, then use it, otherwise let it go...

I like the way Bitdefender free is, and that they don't upgrade it often, to add features and bloat.
Signatures are updated within 5min. from boot, and then every ~1,5h. Very good, for a free AV!

I don't care that it is not compatible with WIN10 (as they say), because I will not use WIN10 in the near future, most likely not at all.

Methinks because he may have trollish tendencies regarding BD free in general. I haven't bothered to check his posting history to check if he's even downloaded and used the app. But even an enlightened troll is still a troll... :isay:

As usual, its easier bashing and mocking a product...you obviously are a Bitdefender troll and you never tried its free or other products,no matter what you are saying...so before judging a product by other opinions...install and see for yourself. If not, move on and use whatever product you are a fanboy for.
