My OS is Windows 7 64Bit Professional SP1, and I have discovered the hard way that I cannot create a System Image on a WD 4TB Elements drive using Windows Backup and Restore. I have read that Macrium Free will successfully create a System Image on the above drive. Before I carry on chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, can anyone confirm that Macrium Free would indeed successfully create a Windows 7 System Image on a WD 4TB Elements drive.
The problem is the 4096 sector size set when the drive is manufactured. John, since macrium free is free, just download it and test it.
I don´t think it´s a setting, but a physical characteristic of the disk. It´s a native 4k disk, only compatible with Windows 8+.
Do you think that W7 wouldn't be able to partition the disk at all? Multiple smaller partitions might help but of course if W7 won't recognize the drive at all then multiple partitions could't be created. Edit: just found this on the MS SITE so format the disk as GPT RATHER THAN MBR
John, Does your 4TB HD have 4K native sectors? Is it a MBR or a GPT disk? With 4K native sectors you can have a MBR disk up to 16 TB in size. Or you can use GPT.
