Cantare, oh-oh, Opera browser, oh-oh-oh, me test, di browser me test, nel review di OCS-Mag. I have not lost it, no, not yet, 'tis just a merry song reference, and the lyrics of the day are all about Opera 35. I owed you one, I promised, and here it is. Let's see if it makes a difference. Enjoy.

Well, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings (sorry). Avast!'s SecureZone browser is virtually based on Opera I think.

It was over when they moved "on" to Chrome.

And they didn't do anything better, creative or different with it. Just another Chromium based browser while Presto was something different and unique.

It's really not that bad, and you can get to power user settings, albeit in a convoluted way >>>

    >>

Enabling Power User Settings in Opera

    Visit the opera://settings page

Make sure the mouse cursor is not in the search box under Settings,

    Now type ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a using your keyboard.

Opera will now display a power user settings dialogue, and warns you that 'these settings are hidden for a reason, they can severely mess up the browser and we can take no responsibility or performance of the product after proceeding.'

Once you've read that, click on the 'I understand, Proceed' button.

    Eg. Start Page stuff >>>

You should now see a section in the 'Browser' part of the settings page titled 'Start page', which has quite a few settings for you to play around with.

I don't see all these differences from Presto and Chrome engine. What I really - and, I believe, most part of old Opera users - miss are the old GUI features, the higher configurability, the old speed dial....

"opera is ok" - nice stated. until firefox reaches servo/rust any chromium fork has its limitations.

opera has its advantages from chromium, but also it disadvantages, like speed dial which can not be changed or disabled.

i dont miss presto (old engine v12) at least it got outdated years ago and incompatible - in special javascript.

    broken profile?

    experimental features
    opera://flags/

opera is the only browser which dont support more than one dictionary, vivaldi and chrome can do.

after years there exist no good tab extension, pity.
nevertheless opera is the only chromium fork (except chromium itself) which is native portable. chrome+vivaldi needs starters and an active google/vivaldi account - extensions are gone on other systems.

I've had no problems cloning Vivaldi installations. Chrome will disable extensions. I never use accounts on browsers. Yet another stupid idea that has negative privacy implications. I dumped the new Opera when they took away the flags that disabled sync and started pushing this.

vivaldi and chrome uses the "super_mac" - John Haller wrote about - those are NOT portable itself, only with "sync"
investigate in file "Secure Preferences", last string.

vivaldi also uses a pointer file to its profile - wrong content -> no profile. (stp.viv)
although it claims "standalone" like opera this VIV file is really important.

chrome need a starter with a given profile link (same as opera below)

although opera is portable itself it can use command line parameters for a path
    --user-data-dir="$PROFILEPATH" --profile-directory="Profile 1"
(the 2nd parameter is mandatory for reason)

i dropped chromium because its translation is awfull.
