hi i'm looking for a blu ray burner for desktop mostly to backup data may i have some advises ? even i live in europe i gave a look at newegg and seems LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40 - OEM is great burner i know nothing about blu ray buerners could you help me to buy one? thanks
I have found the device really does not matter very much. The technology is all the same as it is licensed and must conform to established protocols. What matters more is the quality of blank disks. Turning a blank CD or DVD into a coaster is little more than frustrating. But blank Blu-ray disks are expensive. Picking the best software is the next challenge. Windows can already burn CDs and DVDs, but because Blu-rays require special licensing that would add to the cost of Windows, you must use a 3rd party program. There are many to choose from. Some that cost money and some that are free. Which is best depends on who you listen too as much as personal opinion and preferences. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2407553,00.asp http://www.technoven.com/free-blu-ray-dvd-burning-software/ That LG will be fine. But OEM burners don't come with Blu-ray burner software (or cables or mounting screws). You might consider spending more for a Retail burner that does come with software, the necessary power and data cables, and mounting screws too.
hi Bill but for example i own a lg dvd burner , and it has a nasty feature called riplock in the firmware , can't disable it and to copy a dvd , here i can make only 1 copy of my bought dvds ,is really wearisome it rips @ less then 2x , it rips to slowly i guess all the lg have such feature to block piracy but again i can make 1 copy of my own dvd thanks Bill
Not something I've looked into. But using Google to search bluray drive without riplock shows lots of information you can sift through.
Hi mantra ! My suggestion is either to buy a LG BH16NS55 (in Europe) or a 2nd generation BH/WH14NS40 2015 release,NOT the 2012 1st generation..... NS55 and NS40 v2 and are both almost hardware identical, but so far,the NS55 build is only available in Europe.. Benefits : M-disc support for reliable data backups, and both are rumored they can read the 4k UHD file structure,so if there comes a software player available which supports the format, you're probably covered for that too....
hi thanks Roady! do you know if they have riplock ? about a dvd burner , i know it's off topic , i'm just thinking about another desktop ,and add on the second desktop a dvd burner and on the main desktop a blu ray burner thanks
I'm still waiting for my new external enclosure so I can't verify that myself yet for the BH16NS55,but I've seen screenshots which showed that at least dvd reading is not riplocked.... Will let you know as soon as my setup is complete, hopefully b4 the end of next week. About a dvdburner,I really don't know....their price is so low these days that almost every 1 is good price/quality wise...
Those screenshots were either fake,or those were from data dvd's. The BH16NS55 needed almost half an hour to rip a 8 GB double layer dvd. A 32 GB blu-ray was ripped in only 20 minutes....
