    On my 6GB box. I set .608 Write Cache to 1K, 2K, 4K, 8K, 10K and 30K.
    Shadow sessions all recovered.
Does Write Cache work for you...?

I installed 612 right away, Windows 10. No obvious problems.

Hi guys, I was thinking of buying this (what looks like a lovely piece of software) for those very rare moments Sandboxie just wont cut it (driver installs, etc.), but first I had a question about it, and since this place seems to be the "forum" for Shadow Defender (unofficially that is) according to Google search, I'll ask it here.

I was wondering about how hard something like this program is on disk I/O writes. I know HD's and SSD's can take a good long beating for years, but even so I'd like to keep that kind of stuff down if possible. Does it for example copy the entirety of drive, C:/, D:/, etc? Because for me that would be a lot!

I'm also kinda scared at the thought of an issue happening, like what if your PC locks up from a program, or the power goes out mid way through using it and on next reboot it doesn't quite restore properly and just bricks your PC instead, is this kind of thing theoretically possible with something like this.

I know there is a free trial (I have not tried it yet) but does Shadow Defender only work with rebooting, like I want to do something, so I start up shadow mode first, then if I want to undo these changes it'll happen only on a fresh reboot. This to me seems kinda annoying but I guess if that's the way it works, it can't be helped (still obviously better then **** mucking up you registry and files).

Yes this program requires a machine reboot to exit shadow mode and undo changes in filesystem.

Dont be scared, if a program locks up the PC or the power goes off, when you restart the PC, all done in Shadow mode will be gone. It would work as if you rebooted.

This is one outstanding virtualization program that is been proven to not only stand the test of time but does it safely.

There is been times (I test malware with it active) that my system would hang up bad (because malware likes to do that) and needed to hard shutdown only to find that once back inside windows you would never know anything happened at all.

It flushes the virtualized session completely

What I wrote is based on experience. This are things that don't happen often but it has happened. Or, maybe you forget and turn off the PC instead of rebooting via Shadow defender UI. That works the same also regarding changes. They ll be gone.

You mentioned Sandboxie earlier. Same with SBIE, if you are using the PC and the power goes off or something locks up the PC and you have to force a shutdown, when you reboot, contents are still in the sandbox, and you can delete the sandbox. Nothing gets out with either program when this things happens.

    Uugh fine. /whips out wallet.

I guess it doesn't matter because I'll probably have bought this before this gets another reply, but I have another question. Does this have a constant running processes and or services running in the background or is it a "run on demand" kind of program, obviously it's going to run when you are in Shadow Mode, but if I'm not using it will something be running from it?

Everyone's machines are different so you comment was not meaning full. Besides you should be imaging your system anyway

You can run it on demand or have the system start in Shadow mode when windows starts. You decide. I run it on demand only, and don't see anything running in Task manager when not in Shadow mode.

    Hello,

I've been reading Wilders for a couple months, ever since I got a new computer. It has been a wealth of information. I've been using the tips and advice here to beef up security, so my computer lasts long enough to justify the money spent.

Unfortunately, I have run into a problem the first time I tried to use Shadow Defender. This may be difficult to describe errors accurately, since the computer will not boot. I am going from memory.

This is on a Windows 10 Home OS, 64-bit:

    - Installed Shadow Defender. After installation, I checked to make sure there were now Windows Updates pending. There were none in the Update Center, so I rebooted computer, per instructions.

    - Booted up with no issues. I wanted to test out SD, so I entered Shadow Mode on all the disk drives that had options (C:, D: (recovery drive), E: (backup usb drive).

    - I changed around the background picture and moved some files around. I went to exit Shadow Mode, and it suggested a reboot. I rebooted, and this reboot also had no issues that I noticed.

    - Upon reboot, the desktop was restored to the original layout before entering Shadow Mode for the first time. Everything seemed to be working fine.

    - The first issue I noticed, was the shortcut to Shadow Defender on the desktop did not work. I got an error message to the effect of "can no longer find this file, do you wish to delete this shortcut". I deleted it. The search bar in Windows could no longer find the Shadow Defender app in the directory.

    - I went to run the downloaded Shadow Defender setup file again, but got an error along the lines of "could not find Temp file" or "Could not access Temp folder". Something involving Temp file folder.

    - I thought maybe I didn't exit Shadow Mode correctly. Since I setup SD to exit Shadow Mode upon reboot, I rebooted the computer, and then the real problems began.

    - At the initial BIOS startup screen, there was a quick message about a file. I wish I could have grabbed a screenshot or written it down, but it was gone too quickly for me to react. If I saw the message again, I would recognize it, but I wasn't expecting it, and it wasn't a file I recognized....NCAD- something?... the end result, was the startup process was interrupted, and it forced itself to reboot again.

    - The system was stuck in a reboot loop for maybe 3 cycles, then Windows Recovery took over, and started to scan the hard drive. It warned me that this could take over an hour, and since it was late, I left the room and sat down.

    - Several hours later, I checked on the computer, and it is now stuck in the "Please Wait...." cycle of startup. It will not go any further.

There must be some conflict between Shadow Defender and either Windows 10, or some other program.

Other security software I have installed and running at the time of the problem:

    - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro
    - Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Pro
    - Avira AV
    - Sandboxied Firefox browser with ublock origins, disconnect
    - UAC set to maximum
    - SmartScreen enabled (had to authorize installation of Shadow Defender setup.exe)

I have a quick question...Does this site belong to Tony the developer of shadow defender? Never heard of it before (I thought SD was his only software) If so, I really like the file locker program and was wondering if it's still being developed. Sorry to be a bit off topic

I don't know who owns the site but I understand the file locker its from Tony. I installed it once, it was easy to use but I felt it conflicted with Sandboxie somehow. I force a few folders and many programs with SBIE, a few days after installing the locker, I noticed problems to sandbox programs from some areas of the computer. I had never experienced that before. After uninstalling the locker, all was well again.

It seemed like a nice program, Overkill. Easy to install easy to uninstall. I didn't look for anything similar after uninstalling.

Yes, please boot your computer into Windows Safe Mode, then all the protected files will be visible and accessible.
