I thought you might be worried - worried? - about the security of your *** ... Here's an important article discussing the highly controversial decision by Microsoft to include non-security fixes into a security update for Internet Explorer, the actual changes in the system and their implications, impact on users, trust issues and call to action, critical practical advice on how to block and turn off OS upgrades, security considerations, other tips and tricks, and more. Lookie, lookie. Come hither. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/windows-security-updates-with-ads.html Cheers, Mrk
Great article, thanks. The only part I disagree: You REALLY need to read Windows' EULA. THEY are the boss, not you They can do anything on your system, even remotely remove programs if they think it's not appropriate. And the fact that you're a paying customer means nothing, actually. You're only paying to use Windows, you don't own it. Microsoft might as well revoke all current Vista/7 licenses for people who are not in the extended support program and when the ES ends.
It's not about who owns the software. Think in simple human terms. Your computer, your rules. Simple. Mrk
I think this does apply to Win 10 to a large extent. In 10, they basically have total control over what goes on in your machine. It's ridiculous. But this isn't and shouldn't be the case in Win 7. 10 is a lost cause. 7 *should* still be yours.
Problem is, you're agreeing not to own the software. You own the hardware, but Microsoft the software.
This kind of EULA dates back to Windows 95 if I'm not mistaken Not according to the Legal term you said "I agree" Sorry.
Ok, well, either way, I'm using Linux now, so who cares, right? But I'm serious about Win 10... in it's default state, they totally control *everything* that goes on. Forced updates ensures that they can change apps and anything on the system without the user being able to say no to any of it. That's how they want it. Win 10 connects to so many servers that a person has no idea what the heck is going on in the system. It's just unbelievable... Adios Windows, says Kerodo.
Exactly I'm here as well, never been better. Specially with my script to tune down geolocation on Arch. Exactly. Windows 10 is NSA's wet dream, I think. And all to blame on Microsoft's current CEO. But hey, it's not like Mr. Gates and Mr. Allen wouldn't have done this as well. Remember, their first company name was "Traf-O-Data" and the first product "offered a rudimentary computer that tracked and analyzed automobile traffic data", so Microsoft has a history of REAAALLY loving data analysis. And although their original company/product is harmless, the company went too far with Windows 10 and now Vista, 7, and 8 as well. If it wasn't too time-consuming to maintain Windows 7, I'd probably be using it. It's a great OS, I love it, but Microsoft crossed the line. And I don't have the time to go thorough all updates to see which violates my privacy or not.
Yeah, that's how I feel about 7 too. I loved it in it's younger days, but now it's just too much trouble. It's sad...
Happy Ubuntu Linux user here. I do keep a windows 7 VM in case I HAVE TO use MS Word, PPT and excel etc. The VM has no network connection though, LOL, sorry Microsoft.
@ Linux Systems Expert I don't know how you manage to do ALL the things you ? Maybe only sleep an hour a day Always good to read your articles etc, written in a non BS/PC way
Actually I would like to switch over to linux or unix, but I'm worried that virtualizing a Windows machine with Adobe Premiere may be slow, Im also tried of these updates trying to get me to run Windows 10.
