Well, in my defence, I have had brain damage. But yes, to answer your question; I did read the link. Which kind of brings me back to my original subjunctive statement: I thought they were the same thing anyway. o_O

Ixquick is its own private search service, no Google results.

StartPage is Ixquick with private Google results.

I did read the link, too, and if "Starting March 26, you'll receive private StartPage search results on Ixquick.com" how then "but if you prefer current Ixquick search results, don't worry. They will still be available"?

I've used Ixquick but never StartPage. Looks like we'll be getting the Google whether we and it or not. Hopefully there might be some setting to filter out Google results.

OK thanks. There was also Starting Page at one time but it disappeared. I thought they were all essentially Ixquick. I tried both and thought they gave the same results. I was obviously mistaken lol. I still blame the brain damage. ;)

Both search engines are owned and operated by Surfboard Holding BV (privately owned
    Dutch company) of the Netherlands.

NOTE: To view Ixquick search engines used hover over the blue star icon next to the result
link and the name(s) of the search engine(s) providing it will be displayed.

Why? Having both Google results (without giving them the possibility to track you) and the results from other search engines is what I've been waiting for years.

Well here's some good news .

They've both been around for as long as you've waited , so they are well-proven now.
Yes , they appeared similar but the differences were subtle , and needed some user investigation , as mentioned in earlier posts .
I used them both for some time , on different machines , but Ixquick made changes I didn't like .

They originally got my attention because I liked how the data flows :-

eg . Google results => Startpage => User
    but in the other direction
    User => Startpage .... || .... Startpage => Google ( next to nothing about User ..."theoretically" - :))

Well, using Startpage basically gives you two kinds of benefits: 1/ it anonymizes your search and results, and 2/ it prevents any 'bubble effect' (there's no bias in the results due to your previous searches --because no tracking is done--, you always start a fresh and complete search, based only on the search terms you enter --not on what Google 'thinks' you're looking for).

Yes, sure (note that I've been using Startpage for years for that reason). But that doesn't change at all once both search engines are merged, does it? That's why I don't understand why a "setting to filter out Google results" is requested.

What's confusing here? Startpage exclusively presents Google results, and ixquick exclusively presents results from other search engines (Yahoo, Gigablast, Yandex etc.). Merging them should result in better search results.

Of course ;) I think I stopped using it even before they were purchased by Yahoo.

Yes, but Google was clearly better. And "not evil" ;)

The Internet was far more innocent, back then. So it goes.
