    How did you find out?
And could you share which updates include KB3139929?

After installing security update for Internet Explorer KB3139929 (of which the article says it includes nonsecurity-related KB3146449 that "adds functionality to Internet Explorer 11 on some computers that lets users learn about Windows 10 or start an upgrade to Windows 10"), the setting for DisableOSUpgrade is still 1. No override there.

And here is Woody Leonhard's article:
Windows patch KB 3139929: When a security update is not a security update

    In which Woody writes:
No such behavior on my Windows 7 system, either.

I don't think you understood my post.
Let me rephrase it - 13 updates for Win 7 64 bit - one of which was the above mentioned KB3139929. I did not mean all 13 contained KB3139929 !

    Ah, yes, I misunderstood.
I thought you meant 13 other (perhaps earlier) updates included KB3139929.
    Thanks very much for clarifying.

They're probably just adding the capability to display interactive ads of some sort for Win 10 in IE11 on Win 7 machines...

Fine, but that should be offered as an opional update, never packed in a security update!

Yep, you'll get no argument here.. I think we can all agree that none of the Win 10 ads/nagware should ever have come thru Win Updates at all.

There's a whiff of bork with almost everything to do with BS these days, oh sorry, I meant MS! lol

I think 'bork' roughly translates as 'Microsoft Corporation' in the colloquial of many languages. ;)

I've got a feeling that they are, in which case I've got a message for them:

Dear MS I would like you to [Deleted as contravenes Wilders Policy, and besides it is physically impossible to push a computer monitor that far up that particular part of the human anatomy, and even if you could, it wouldn't make that happen anyway].

Is anybody getting the slow update check again? I thought it was back to normal last month, but now once again it's taking over an hour just to check. I wish they'd fix this crap. Others on DSLR are getting the same problem.. slow update check plus 50-60% constant cpu usage... I guess if they fix it then they're afraid 7 users won't go to 10. Keeping it screwed up is probably how they try to drive us to 10.

Edit: Ok, all done. It took a little over 2 hours for the update check to come up with the updates. I guess that's going to be par for the course from now on. Anyway, I installed all 19 of them, rebooted, and no issues or problems. The IE update didn't cause any bad behavior, nor did it open any extra tabs or anything else. Seems harmless so far. Otherwise, all is well as far as I can tell. I'll make an image of this in a day or two if no problems arise...

Yes - exceptionally slow on Win 7, also over an hour.

It took over seven hours to complete the initial check for updates on a clean install of Vista a few days ago.
