But for security reasons, above all, I do recommend to drop rights and hide those messages with no harm at all. Again, I've been doing this for months or over a year sans adverse effects.

For that, I think you better off searching YouTube for a video or Google for pictures.

I agree, but unfortunately even hiding the message doesn't work, every time I start SBIE it keeps coming back. I think I'll have to go admin as I find it annoying in the long run...

This has been an issue with Sandboxie for me for a long time on my machines. Hidden messages don't stay hidden. I've reported it. Finally, I just opted for living with it.

Hi Page, yes one can live with it, but I also think that having an AV and considering that SBIE is also very safe in admin mode, I prefer to to run admin and that's that. With all the advice given for many years on Wilders that running as a standard account is the safest proposition, I have always had some problems in following this guideline. From Vista onward, UAC has already been enforcing a standard account, therefore dropping rights in restrictions to me it's a bit of an overkill...

Strange behavior your are reporting. Make sure when a SBIE message pops up to select and highlight the message you want to hide within the message box and take note of message number on the left side, e.g. SBIEXXXX. Then make sure it is included under [UserSettings_XXXXXXXX] a line just like SbieCtrl_HideMessage=XXXX,etc. within Sandboxie.ini.

I agree about getting prompted being annoying. I think you and Page ought to start from scratch regarding Hidden messages. If you click "Forget hidden messages", all messages you have set as hidden as of this moment, would be allowed to be issued again. And then, start hiding them again as they show up. Doing this might fix hiding messages for you. I would reboot the PC after clicking to forget hidden messages.

    Sandboxie control>Configure>Forget Hidden messages

Page, I think I recommended doing this to you some time ago, and I guess it didn't work then. But time has passed since and a few new Sandboxie versions have been released since that time. I would try forgetting hidden messages again.

CustomizerGod > Opens up but gives an error (registry related)
Moo0 Connection Watcher > Last time I checked, it was working fine.
vtuploader > After opening, it closes itself after a few seconds without an error.

OK thanks, so it's not just my system. I wonder if these tools somehow refuse to run inside a sandbox (what would be suspicious), or that SBIE is being too restrictive. I will later respond in the SBIE thread.

A few months ago, you asked about Moo0 Connection Watcher. At that time, I tested the program and all went well installing it sandboxed.

A few minutes ago, I installed vtuploader. As far as I can tell, the program installed just fine. But cant use it as I don't have the API or whatever is called.

For the other program, I need to have a more recent NET version. So, I cant try it.

OK thanks, I'm beginning to think this must be related to Win 8 64 bit. If I'm correct you run Win 7. So something is not right.

Perhaps but maybe not. The programs you listed that I successfully tested installing sandboxed took no more than 15 seconds to install. I advise you try again using a new default settings sandbox (old advice) and disable the rest of security programs you are using when you run the installers. Rasheed, it is possible one of the other security programs that you are using is blocking the installation. Perhaps your HIPS program is blocking the installation, that can happen.

The same thing happens in a clean sandbox without any restrictions, also with HIPS disabled. And member busy had the same problem. It's most likely something in SBIE, because sometimes certain apps can run sandboxed all of a sudden, after a SBIE update.

Sometimes when you install a program in a sandbox, the program closes after the installation is over and it might appear that the installation failed. Perhaps thats what Busy experienced in his computer. When this happens, you can reopen the program by running it via Sandboxies Start menu. He didnt get any errors, maybe the program did install fine for him.

When I run the installer for the VT program, all I have to do is click accepting the License agreement and the program opens up. Seems like a very simple installation. One screen and the install is over. I am in W7 and I think Busy is using W7 also.

W8 is different, it would be nice for you if someone in W8 can run the installer just to see what happens. The installation takes less than 5 seconds.

    Hi,

I have had various challenges in using the Sandboxie V4 and V5 versions along with all my other software. This is why I started thinking of the good old V3.76 again, after many years... I never had any problems with that version and I started to think if it could make any sense trying to return back to that version again.

A quick test showed no apparent compatibility problems with SBIE V3.76 in my current SW configuration but I wonder how much security would I lose, based on what we currently know about V3.76 security.

I'm running 64-bit Windows 7, have UAC enabled and use a nonprivileged user account for my daily jobs.

Could someone knowledgeable please shed some light on the specific question "what would I lose in security compared to Sanboxie V5.10 if returning back to Sandboxie V3.76 in my environment"?

To put it in other words just in case, I'm currently only interested in what I would compromise if returning back from Sandboxie V5.10 to V3.76 in the environment I described above...

Yes exactly, that's what I'm saying, perhaps SBIE reacts differently on Win 8 since the OS kernel has been changed. I'm sure you remember my thread about Firefox constantly crashing if run as child process from Opera 12. This problem didn't exist with SBIE v4, but it does on v5, so it's 100% a SBIE problem. It's not always related to conflicts with other security tools.
