Old version of Linux, and probably no backups... Not blaming the victim, but you gotta be prepared these days.
I see the hackers have upped the ante a bit; to $3.6 million. I also suspect this was a Windows installation; can't see a major U.S. hospital running Linux.
It's a nasty bit of work agreed. But I think organizations with mission critical operations have to FN wake up. But still ******** blackmailing a hospital.
I can't help but think "what if" when these types decide to take the money but leave the data fully fudged. Either way you have to agree that it is still very low grade and cold hearted, a hospital?
Actually, web based e-commerce is a joke. Time to reinvent the wheel and either fork up the money to built a secure network for e-commerce, or go back to paper and using the phone.
