With the purchase of a new smarty-pants phone last month and my Bitdefender Mobile license set to expire soon, I decided to shop around and noticed Sophos. Maximum scores. Full-blown feature set. European developer with long-term industry creds. FREE.

After 0.03 seconds of consideration, I installed Sophos.

MBAM not tested. I wonder why?

Yeah, I know it isn't an AV, but still...

COMODO not tested as well, free and very good product.

Good question. I've been running it on my tablet since the October 2014 beta. The last program update was to 2.00.3 in December. Malware and URL databases update consistently, the latter more so.

And the price is right. (Free.)

Cheetah Mobile is generally known in the Android world to be as bad or worse than malware, yet gets excellent ratings. Lovely.

Tell that to Windows 10, or the mobile world in general. And I'm not really kidding.

I'm not sure what you mean by that?

I always had really good luck with Sophos in the past. However, I have found that it really kills my battery and takes way too long to do a scan, and it misses a few test files that it never did in the past. I am having better luck with Avast 5.0 which is newer that the version tested. Fast scans, low battery use and lots of security.

The main issue with CM products are privacy, which isn't something you take for granted these days with Windows 10 and the mobile world.

I agree, even with my old S2 (I9100) I got now Android M which includes latest security fixes and overall it works a lot of faster on my device then the latest official 4.1.2 update.

What this test not mentioned is how about if someone disabled root + unknown sources + set SELinux to enforcing (default in CM) which then I think usually blocks 99% of malware, the 1% is maybe Play Store because there are the possibility to get infected from there, but as always this isn't fixable by the OS because if you install something you mostly at your own.

I wonder what purpose it would serve on a phone. I use Norton, mostly because I like the App Advisor. I don't see any holes left for MBAM to fill there.

I am using ESET that I downloaded from the Amazon site. It is free, but you must update manually, and it lacks some features.I am using it on two Android tablets.

Sophos has never even shown up in my battery usage stats, so I'm sorry to hear you have had bad luck with it.
