    Updates set to 'never', I do this manually. I think I managed to avoid all the telemetry/Windows 10 updates.

    Aside from being very slow, yesterday I got three essential (critical? correct phrases ?) updates that were pretty much optional. Something about Windows activation/genuine copy (?) and two others that didn't belong there as well. Needless to say, I skipped them.

    Only today I got the real updates. It still took a long time, though. A messy experience at best. I have no idea why it wanted to install IE 10 instead of IE 11 ... Still using IE 9.

    I haven't seen any updates listed lately, so I wouldn't know. Maybe the update service updates IE versions that way by default, or else there is some coding reason for needing IE 10 first before getting IE 11. If they are critical updates, they won't be listed as optional. Are you maybe seeing the Windows 10 activation pop up? It shows up on my screen multiple times a day.

    The update scan has been brutally slow for me of late on Win7.

    @Arthfael,

    I managed to avoid the Windows 10 telemetry and 'preparation' updates for as far as I know. So, no pop-ups for me.
    Last month or so IE 11 was offered. I think that M$ only support the latest browser on Windows 7 ?

    It's a mess.

    No problems with the updates but there was a major .Net update. Appears many if all assemblies have been replaced. So your PC will be compiling and installing those assemblies for some time. Mscorsvw.exe was running all day yesterday after the update and continued the morning after boot time.

    I'm not sure then. It's strange, I haven't seen any update notifications at all. I don't think I managed to avoid the telemetry thing, but I don't know how to get rid of it either so I just let it go.

    @Arthfael,

    It would take some work, but there are sources that describe the KB... telemetry/updates to prepare for WIN 10.
    Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any in English. But surely they must exist.

    It is possible to uninstall these.

    MisterX, thank you for the link. Unfortunately it requires an account to see the relevant content. However, I'm sure a thorough search of Google will help me out too.

    Ran both scripts last evening, both seeming to work just fine, including the removal of five win 10 upgrade files. However, no help in the update scan process. It took literally hours (left it running overnight) to finish the update scan.

    There are three scripts available inside the rar file so which ones did you actually run?

    Oh?? I was in a hurry, so I only saw and ran the W10-Block.cmd and W10-Uninstall.cmd scripts. I just now saw the W10-Hide.cmd, though since this latter one only hides them, i'm doubtful it would have helped. Thanks for mentioning this. I will run it next, just so I won't ever have to deal with the win10 updates again.

    Ok now I'm going to highlight two comments, from abbodi:
    So if you hide or not install some updates, WU Client will mal-function.
