While Google-searching security topics I ran across this: https://www.deepdotweb.com/jolly-rogers-security-guide-for-beginners/ Looks interesting. Did a search here and it never came up, so maybe something worth looking over.
After reading that entire thing I am heading out to buy some more rolls of "tin foil" for my whole body not just my hat. LOL!!
Something else I found yesterday to feed the paranoia: https://securitygladiators.com/2016/01/19/how-you-can-get-arrested-using-internet/ ...and the hits just keep on coming!
It's generally mistakes and unrealistic assumptions that get people in trouble. When you're building a bridge, you build it maybe ten times stronger than you calculate is necessary. Just in case. Same idea here
True enough! Unfortunately babies have to learn to crawl before they can walk, and learn how to walk before they can run....and sometimes they get stupid and try to skip ahead, then fall on their face. Same general principle applies with privacy and security. You gotta know what you're doing before you try to do it. Even them that should know better get stupid, and try to take shortcuts. That 'Silk Road' guy comes to mind. Learning everything you can and always taking 'baby steps' seems the best way to me.
Right, DPR From what I've read, he started out wondering how to build huge onion sites. He asked about methods on StackExchange, using his real name. As he worked on the project, he became increasingly anonymous. But there was a trail, and he didn't do enough to break it. So yes, baby steps are fine. Just don't leave trails.
I Yes the spying programs they deploy on the big boys are scary! With Silk Road they also linked him to a Reddit account which had been deleted from years earlier "Altoid" that had just made a few posts to generate hype the day he rolled out the site. But you can't blame him for that mistake because at that moment in time he had nothing to hide. If only he had known what it was going to become!
Maybe so. But that was a permanent association with his real identity. I wonder whether he ever thought about it. He did delete the account, I guess. Maybe he assumed that was enough.
