I'm on an election site tonight thats going crazy following Iowa and my machine - running Chrome beta is going NUTs running high cpu fan at hign speed so I switch to Iridium - same websites and the machine calmed right down. Chrome and Chromium have a lot going on in the background that cause that high usage. Its numbers came in faster than Chrome or Chromium on my machine using Googles Octane tests. Not by a significant margin but still faster.
Can you install it alongside chrome on a machine? I installed chromium and it messed up and took over my chrome directorys
Well, source doesn't mean privacy, actually. But for what I could read, Iridium is not a bad alternative to Chromium if the user wants privacy.
That's not FUD, that has been proven to exist. And it's not a bad thing, actually; at least the calls aren't to Google. In addition, you can build the browser without any calls at all, not even to Iridium's servers.
Yeah either in that thread or another about that they detailed why that is and as has been said its not going to Google. Depending on what OS you have its behind Chrome/Chromium by at couple of releases anyway and may not auto update.

Check your extensions and profile, that's not normal behaviour for an elections website. If it's still like that in Incognito mode or a clean install, then Iridium may have fixed something.
There were something like 20,000 posts and every few minutes another few hundred posts would need refresh to show. That's what I attributed to the cpu usage.
A new release was planned for August 2017, but it seems to be delayed. The latest release is based on Chromium v58.

Any user using the latest version? Can you please check whether Iridium connects to Google especially during startup and see whether the connection is also permanent? The earlier version v61 does connects to Google....and they said they secure your privacy? Thanks
I was able to see connections to fra[...]1e100.net (1e100.net is a Google-owned domain name used to identify the servers in our network.) But only temporarily, not permanent. And connections to ir-[...].iridiumbrowser.de right after Iridium Browser was started. I wanted to uninstall uMatrix and uBlockO but wasn't able to. The trash can isn't functional and even deactivating these extensions wasn't possible Code: Developer Console (F12): Unchecked runtime.lastError while running management.setEnabled: Failed to find extension with id cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm. Found Iridium connects to the following addresses 74.125.204.xxx 172.217.26.xx I believe 73.xxx, 74.xxx, 172.xxx, 173.xxx etc belong to Google Yes, earlier version also has an issue to remove extensions. You'll need to remove it from the address bar. They still have not solve this issue?
