Windows SmartScreen blocks this thing from even installing. Seriously McAfee/Microsoft? The file is digitally signed and it's getting blocked?
It was called earlier Raptor https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/mcafee-raptor-beta.371700/ There are some new features?
How to Use Real Protect Works like not bad. Checks program at the time of their launch. http://storage3.static.itmages.ru/i/16/0128/s_1453966523_4250019_a8c2ca5483.jpg
It would be nice if they'd combine their free cloud app with this one. Now that would be pretty cool.
It's a behavior blocker. They are rather rare since we left Windows XP behind. Especially on 64bit systems. What's great about them? It's very hard to fool them. They detect behavior, not how the binary looks like. Which is just better. You can't exactly obfuscate behavior if you want your malware to do what it's suppose to do.
Yes but it doesn't seemed to be an advanced one, it's not using any services or drivers. The only interesting BB/HIPS at the moment is the one from EIS, and it's most likely to be way more advanced.
It's not possible to make behavior blocker without using any drivers. Not sure where you're getting that idea from...
I wouldn't trust McAfee for one second. Burned me in the past had to completely restore my system. Always, Wildman
If this is a reincarnation of Raptor, I would stay away from it as if it was the plague. Did some nasty stuff on my Win 7 build: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/mcafee-raptor-beta.371700/page-2#post-2457088
Can you explain it more clearly? Are you saying that it does make use of a driver, or are you saying that it's not needed? I will tell you one thing, all advanced anti-malware tools with BB capabilities make use of the service/driver architecture, that's the only way to offer serious protection. Yes, most of the time their consumer products are garbage. I have a feeling that this tool is probably meant for telemetry data collection/user spying, I'm not surprised by itman's post.
That's an extremely unfair view of McAfee, at least relating to their products of the past year or so. I too stayed clear for many years becuase they were ineffective and slowed the whole PC down. However the 2016 and 2017 products are very light on resources, even lighter than Windows Defender in my tests. Not sure yet about Real Protect, not clear which version it is included in and whether IPS needs to be enabled or not to make RP work.
Have they changed their renew and marketing policies. I used them along time ago and canceling the renewal was this side of hades. I am still leary.
A few weeks ago was the first time I paid for a McAfee product for at least 10 years. Purchased off Amazon the online code, need to set up an account but NO auto renewal was enabled; that's what I expected and received.
What's impressed me the most about them is the generally high quality of support interventions, compared with the appalling technical support of many other AVs I've tried. Last attempt at contact with a major competitor was a one week response time. McAfee was excellent with a response in 2 minutes and then shortly after they are in your PC with Logmein, 3 out of 4 times doing a good job, one time really excellent, like having the expert guy / girl from the IT department directly involved in resolving the issue, perhaps it was a Level 2 person.
Well, you know how it works, after a bad experience it's hard to give them a second chance. My comments were based on their AV product that comes pre-installed on a lot of PC's. It's a very annoying and bare bones AV. Strangely enough, the slow down of the system wasn't that bad, but probably because I disabled most of the real-time features.
