I have the lifetime license for SSM, after it folded. So, it is still good on XP, for me. Also, have a lfetime licence for OSS, but never did get it to work on my XP system. Ah well, them the breaks.

I don't think Outpost uses activation servers. If not, it will activate forever.

So they brought outpost just to kill off the competitor software? :(

I certainly hope the nice folks at Agnitum aren't going to let Yandex destroy Outpost Firewall. It was second to Sygate Firewall... and now recalling memories that Norton's acquisition of Sygate and their firewall software, Norton totally destroyed a simplistically advanced security application just to add to norton's chalk and crayon interface and bloatware.

Going to miss OPF/OSS and the advanced features, just like I miss Sygate. :(

i removed OPFW & reinstalled OSS with my traded in 'lifetime' key. it installed OK, activated OK, appears they have not (as yet) deactivated my key. looks like it will continue to work. after the updates stop on the 32st of december, it will then be adviseable to install a third party antivirus/antimalware to stay fully protected on that front, and disable the then obsolete funtions in OSS. i personally am reverting to OPFW & using my lifetime key for that which i have not traded in.

Hey, did you receive two "activation keys", one key for 1 year? As far as I know, activation keys for Kaspersky products have a grace period after issue, after which it will start activate itself and start counting the license period. I would wonder if they would issue activation keys that allows you to activate it one year after your first year of license expires.

That means, a user has to activate both keys at the same time so as to get a first one year on one hand, and then activate another key immediately so that you got another year of extension pending the expiration of the first year? Hm...it appears that did not give enough clear instructions to the migration users.

I tried installing Yandex, and it installed to the user-space instead of Program Files. I'm not sure if there was an option during installation to install to Program Files instead. If there's not then it will not be AppGuard friendly so I want be able to use it.

Edit: I added Yandex to Guarded Apps List from the user-space, and it's working. I will report back if that changes. Something the Browser needs could still end up getting blocked again since it's installed in the user-space.

Edit: Well, a few things are already being blocked that may cause some functionality problems for Yandex. Yandex is trying to schedule something in Windows task, and AppGuard is blocking it. Maybe I could run Yandex for a brief period without AG to allow it to do it's thing, and then enable AG protection. It's still up in the air whether Yandex will function properly, and be stable with AG. I have not experienced any noticeable problems yet.

Edit 1/17 @ 2:14: It turns out that Yandex is not a good fit for AppGuard. AG has already started blocking Yandex crash service. The crash service is most likely running due to other things AG is blocking belonging to Yandex. Despite all the blocks there have been no visible crashes, or functionality problems. I attached an image of the crash service being blocked by AG.

i noted that as well, probably all the new restrictions on file permissions in the 'program files' folders with windows 10 - the new 11099 build added a few more restrictions.

i've been informed by agnitum that the deal with kaspersky is a trade, not free, so your traded outpost licence key WILL be terminated. also the KISS key or keys must be activated this month.

I doubt it, since outpost doesn't use activation servers. This is exactly the response I would expect from them. They are trying to migrate people off it, afterall.

The Kaspersky keys I received in exchange for my Outpost licenses are Russian only keys and no good in the USA, according to their support staff.

They used to. I seem to remember shooting a question or two to their support email a few years back.

yes. they prefer going thru the user forum, but they did respond themselves when necessary. we are in touch with them behind the scenes. as agnitum is no longer trading, and they are moving on to new jobs in new offices, their responses, support, a/v updates are on their own time and will likely take longer, if at all - depends on the question. yandex did not buy them to carry on outpost stuff, they bought then and gave them jobs to work on their new english browser and integrate outpost's security into it.

p.s. -- the keys are NOT russian only. i have traded in my OSS lifetime license for two keys (good for two years on three pc's) and their email, as well as the downloaded program were in english, and the keys worked just fine. i suspect agnitum as it died got the best deal it could. the word i got from high up is that you must trade in your outpost keys and activate kaspersky security by the end of jabuary when the deal ends. terms, including the barring of traded in keys were set by kaspersky. outpost, in spite of what was said earlier does check to ensure your licenses are not pirated. how exactly that will now affect those who are trying to take a new KISS key and retain their old outpost keys that then became the property of kaspersky, we will find out after the 31st of january i am sure.

This was according to Kapsersky support staff. I had inquired with them to determine how long I have, before I need to use the keys. They said and I quote "Those are russian edition codes". I could post more but since this was a private chat transcript I think I will leave it at that.

i've tried them on the english version of kaspersky internet security suite and they work fine, no matter what you have been told or are telling others. are you perchance russian yourself? your keys may be for the russian version if so.

(i'm a US citizen myself, by the way)

from what i have been told by agnitum's management, you must activate kaspersky with your new key or keys prior to the 31st of jan. 2016 or kaspersky will start the countdown on them for you. the first key gives you a year, till the end of dec. 2016 or so.

a second key, which you get for trading a lifetime license also must be added this month is held as a reserve and starts on expiration of the first. we have not been told when what was your outpost license key is to actually be barred.

outpost keys NOT traded in will stay active and updated till the end of this year or until they expire whichever comes first, outpost will then no longer update any a/v or a/m files. or offer any support at all.

as i mention elsewhere, i traded in my OSS lifetime for two KISS keys, downloaded KISS english , installed it, activated the two keys, tried KISS, decided i like eset smart security (ESS) better, and reinstalled OPFW sans web control after reinstalling ESS (firewall off).

will be an interesting year or so coming up. feel free to visit the user forum linked in my signature for further info, updtaes and speculation. at least until the plug gets pulled.
