What is your security setup these days?

Perhaps I'm used to the way CIS is tweaked. I believe for a person especially paranoid security geek, not being able to tweak settings is quite frustrating.

 

I would buy it only for the AV, so not worth it. I would use 360 if it was less bloated (background services) and not from China.

 

It doesn't need to. Which is why I choose Emsisoft. Install and forget.
What I mean is for some those who are paranoid geeks and want to have total control of their AV would prefer to have settings configure instead of AI-like AV.

I like Malwarebytes too, they're a great company with a great support. But, are you sure they don't collect data too?

On Windows my security setup was:

- MBAM Premium;
- Avira Free (for it's detection rate);
- CIS (Great firewall, sandbox, and HIPS combo);
- EMET 5.2 on Max Settings;
- An un-priviledged account, UAC on Max. Whenever a system change was requested, I needed to type the admin account's passphrase.

Lock down: "Do Not show popup alerts" is checked with "Block Requests" for FW and HIPS.

The setup seems to be light on my PC.

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 x64 Enterprise Build 1511. (Note: Only a single PC, Not part of a network or anything)
Antivirus: Avira Antivirus Pro (v.15). - Realtime *
Malware Protection: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium (v.2.2). - Realtime *
* Note: Both Avira and Malwarebytes have exception for each others dir.
Firewall: Windows firewall - managed by "TinyWall".
Browser: Firefox 43.x - Addons: uBlock Origins, HTTPS Everywhere, WOT, 1Password, Other stuff for customization like Tab Scope.
Backup: Acronis True Image 2016. (Weekly backup).
Other Stuff: Common sense , UAC: Set to recommended, EMET 5.5 Beta (Set to recommended), O&O ShutUp10 1.3.1354 (Blocking all, except for windows and office updates), OpenDNS, Secunia PSI, HostsMan (MVPS Hosts), 1Password 4.

Is there anything that i need to add/change/remove? Would appreciate your help guys , Thanks.

 

Excellent, thorough setup. My only recommendation would be to set UAC to the highest setting of Always Notify to prevent many of the UAC bypasses. The default/recommended level for UAC is often more likely the target of bypasses.

@Surreal90 You're welcome. There is Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (https://www.malwarebytes.org/antiexploit/) which has a free version that covers browsers, browser plugins, and also Java. The paid version covers more apps. But free is pretty decent for most users.

Just Added: Windows 8.1

All is been quite well with my current stock standard (no updated) Windows 8.0 x64 but after picking up a semi-new (refurb) rig with a bad HDD forced a new Toshiba 1TB HD install (decided brand new Toshiba instead of the failed Seagate) and i must say the overall whole install just blew me away. Used Micro's mediacreationtool on a PEN DRIVE after snapping in the new drive and with a short phone call to Micro's setup automated activation line finished up the whole darn thing faster then any install i ever done otherwise before. Pretty swift. First time getting my feet wet on a new install in ages it seems, but it went so incredibly smooth that it deserves some acknowledgment to those Redmond boys n girls for an efficient process without a single burp.

Only issue was no issue at all. I am totally surprised at just how well things have progressed. My BIOS obviously picked up and/or verified the genuine OEM data and everything flew! In fact it went so very well it might just encourage me to grab another Amazon Refurb lappy rig as a reserve sometime again. There's always something wrong somewhere with refurbs but seriously, what's a single HDD replacement compared to more serious hardware replacement needs like a weakening motherboard or even a visual screen problem right?

Have a TON of important customizing changes already being added on this system and SD + NVT-ERP easy as pie went off without a hitch too for initial security placements.

Why didn't anyone tell me it is so easily simple to just plug in a new SATA HDD, boot with microsofts mediacreationtool and complete activation this well!

FYI, i selected the same exact laptop i already have been running insanely NON-STOP for now 3 years running and so that makes things easier IMO to know what's expected thanks to already experience with a similar RIG.

Next security to add will be Sandboxie and am waiting on Andreas to update Registry Guard along with SOB to run parallel with NVT-ERP as a double shield to keep watch over things together since i've found them completely compatible so far.

 

On the HPMA comparision chart obviously the features MBAE has and HPMA has not are not mentioned (the stage 2 and 3 defenses of MBAE)

They all collect data, but some more than others. And that's why I also try to avoid cloud AV's. The thing I like about MBAM and SAS is that they are so lightweight, and can work on demand without any nagging.

I believe they are cloud based, and they host Panda Free on download.com, no thanks.
