Personally, MBAM is probably just wasting my system resources but it did remove OpenCandy once. The free version would have done that too though.
I have the pro version, but have never used the realtime or web protection. I prefer not to use web protection in case in blocks access to websites I want to visit, and I only use my antivirus for real time protection - to keep system impact as minimal as possible. It's still an excellent on demand scanner in my opinion. Also, I have it configured to not launch at startup.
once long time ago, by blocking a "supposed-to-be-safe" website that was exploited. i dont really need it but since i have a license , would be a waste not to use it.
Its blocked OpenCandy, numerous times, its also blocked malicious websites on occasion. But can't really say if its ever blocked an infection. Like some of you I have a lifetime license so may as well use it. I don't go to dodgy websites so probably not much for it to catch in my situation, however, in my opinion it is a very good tool to have.
in fact , most of us here barely have needs of the premium version version of MBAM , we mostly use it for OD scans and second opinion if we "suspect" to be compromised. in my case, before getting infected , the malware have to bypasses so many barriers to compromise my system that MBAM would have nothing to detect/clean. my little hobby is to building my system as a fortress just for the sake of "i can do it, so let's do it" and for the learning. i hardened my OS so i won't even need anything else than Windows built-in security and maybe one or two apps...but a hobby is a hobby
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is still running on its once good reputation. Unfortunately, it has fallen behind miserably and these days make users believe it is doing a good job by detecting mostly harmless PUPs. They may have even coined the phrase "PUP". But they recently purchased Junkware Removal Tool (which is very good) and hired it's developer. Maybe Malwarebytes Anti-Malware may actually become useful again one day. But right now, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a waste of resources.
I go through stages of installing / uninstalling it. I prefer to keep my system usage minimal and stick with Norton. Recently I decided to make my Norton more aggressive in lieu of adding in MBAM Pro.
To be fair, most of Wilders Security members dont need security software at all, it is just a hobby and deep inside we all know that. Malwarebytes Antimalware Premium is pretty good, its malicious web site blocking and real time protection complements well many antivirus (but not like before). Personally I like Malwarebytes AntiExploit Premium a little more, its a kind of protection that we dont get using traditional antivirus.
I am considering ditching real time scanning also. As an example on my laptop currently which is offline and has no a/v running. The UAC prompt appears instantly (note its a low spec laptop). After avast is installed that UAC prompt takes 2-3 seconds to show. If I then install a HIPS real time protection such as defense+ on comodo firewall the lag from that is also noticeable. Personally I reckon HIPS style real time scanning is a bigger hit than legacy file scanners, as monitoring the registry etc. for changes is no light task. On my main pc, nod32 doesnt feel much on performance, but this is a pretty powerful rig, however I am deliberately using an old version of nod32, as the latest version adds a performance hit when opening explorer folders as well as documents. In all the years of using a/v software from the nod32 2.x days I dont think a real time a/v has ever genuinely saved me, I a few times a year get an email attachment which is a trojan but I probably would never have opened those attachments anyway given the senders.
No, not ever. But, that is not an indication of its effectiveness. Just that I have not run into the situation that it was needed.
Good Afternoon! I've still a lifetime license for Mbam Pro...used for on demand...replaced with HMP & HMP Alert...and I'm in agreement with Nightwalker...the Vast Majority of users at Wilders simply don't need it! I'm currently using Heimdal Pro...and WSA Security Plus...and am Very Satisfied...with my Existing Trio...so much so that this might very well be the Final Solution...mainly do to the fact that my Canadian Dollar is so Anemic... that purchasing Security Software for 2016 and 2017...isn't on my Radar at All. Sincerely...Securon
I have the paid version on all 4 computers,. It has never found anything. Is that good? Used it since 2008.
In my opinion, probably there would be several interpretation: 1) Your PC is clean 2) MBAM was unable to detect anything. 3) MBAM fail to detect a malware. Question is, which one you wish to happen? Anyway, back to topic, few months ago I install MBAM free with trial on pro. onto my friend's PC running win 8.1 and so far it's good. Able to detect some malware and clean it. So I guess it's good.
But where are the MBAM test results? ~ Removed Copyrighted Image ~ hxxps://www .mrg-effitas.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/MRG-Effitas-360-Assessment-Q4-2015.pdf
